This warm spell means conditions for the London Marathon, happening this Sunday, are likely to be quite mild

Large parts of the UK are set to enjoy warm, sunny weather at the start of next week, with inland temperatures forecast to reach up to 10C above the seasonal average.

Britons will bask in warm rays of sunshine as temperatures soar into the high teens and low twenties.

Despite a brief spell of rain to western parts of the UK, fine conditions start to build into early next week, according to the forecaster.

Issuing a breakdown of the forecast ahead, a Met Office post on X said: "It's warming up over the weekend

"By early next week, maximum temperatures in the high teens or low 20s Celsius will be widespread."

Tuesday forecast

Temperatures will rise sharply, widely climbing above average on Monday and Tuesday, with highs between 22C and 24C

MET OFFICE

In an update also on Elon Musk's social media platform, Britain's national forecaster wrote: "Maximum temperatures inland could be as much as 10 degrees Celsius above the late April average by Tuesday."

However, the Met Office has admitted that the hot blast will fall just short of their threshold for a heatwave.

The Met Office categorises the threshold as being above a maximum of 25C (28C in the south of England) for three consecutive days.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: "Despite media speculation, next week’s conditions are likely to fall just outside of official Met Office heatwave thresholds.

"However, this shouldn’t lead to any disappointment as many can anticipate a very fine spell of weather with temperatures reaching 27C during the middle of the week."

According to the Met Office, the highest recorded April temperature was way back in 1949 when Camden Square in London recorded 29.4C on 16 April.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Matthew Lehnert said: "We are not expecting the April UK temperature record to be broken, but some locations may nudge local records.

"Often warm spells are driven by warmer air arriving from further south, but the origins of next week’s air are from Scandinavia and central Europe.

"This air mass will be warmed by compression as the high pressure begins to build, and this warmth will be boosted by daytime heating from the April sun."

GETTY

Maps indicate temperatures will rise sharply across the UK, widely climbing above average on Monday and Tuesday, with highs between 22C and 24C.

The highest temperature recorded so far this year is 24C at Northolt, northwest London, on Saturday, April 12.

A spell of settled weather will bring widespread sunshine, moderate UV levels, and elevated tree pollen counts in the South, with low to moderate levels further north.

However, forecasts beyond next Wednesday remain uncertain.

There is a chance of a thundery breakdown from the South or a shift to wetter, windier conditions from the Northwest.

Some models, however, suggest that high pressure may persist, potentially leading to continued fine weather and even higher temperatures.

This warm spell means conditions for the London Marathon, happening this Sunday, are likely to be quite mild, with earlier temperatures expected to be around 11C, rising to 22C later in the day.
