Storm Conall looks set to strike as the Met Office puts out a double yellow rain alert after 255 flood warnings were issued across England and Wales.
The third named storm of the season could bring up to 50mm of rain to much of southern England today.
The low pressure system will then be joined by strong winds brought over from the Netherlands later this afternoon.
The Met Office has issued a yellow rain alert, beginning last night at 10.00pm and lasting until 12.00pm today.

“Spells of rain, heavy in places, likely to lead to some disruption on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning,” the weather office warned.
It said that public transport could be affected, with spray and flooding likely making journey times longer.
Flooding of homes and businesses could also occur, as well as disruption to power services.
The Met Office added: "An area of rain is expected to reach parts of southern England overnight Tuesday, becoming persistent and heavy in places for a time.

"Much of the warning area will see 15-20 mm of rain with 30-40 mm in some areas. There is a lower chance of 50 mm of rain in a few places, more likely for the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent, before rain eases and clears by early afternoon. Given recent wet weather, some disruption to travel and infrastructure is likely."
Yesterday evening, there were more than 90 flood warnings and more than 120 flood alerts issued across the UK.
The Met Office said: “Spells of rain, heavy in places, likely to lead to some disruption on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.”
Alongside the yellow rain alert, England and Wales issued 255 flood warnings, including one severe danger to life warning.

River Nene at Billing Aquadrome, in Northampton, has been placed on high alert "due to deep and fast flowing water which remains on the park. The situation remains hazardous. This means there is danger to life and you must act now", England's Environment Agency has warned.
The dreary weather will come as no relief to Britons, who have just been battered by Storm Bert last week.
The second named storm of the season brought with it torrential rain and powerful winds of over 80mph, transforming roads into rivers.
Hundreds of homes were flooded, and five deaths were reported in England and Wales.
