A jet stream carrying 200mph winds is hurtling towards the UK, bringing with it chaos as the Met Office issues a major storm warning.
On December 21, the powerful winds blowing over from the north Atlantic will be at their strongest as the stream passes over the UK.
At 9.00pm, the winds will be at their most formidable.
Maps released by NetWeather show that the winds will be at their most powerful as they pass over Scotland, with some gales blowing at a whopping 220mph.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning, sweeping over all of Scotland, Northern Ireland and half of Britain.
The warning is in place for the whole of December 21.
The weather office has said that “Strong winds are likely to affect a wide area through Thursday, potentially causing some travel disruption”.
They have warned that there is a “small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected”.

Damage to buildings and power cuts are also likely whilst the alert is in place.
There is a “small chance” that injuries resulting in endangering life could also occur. These injuries could be sustained from large waves, as well as flying debris.
“Some roads and bridges could close” the Met Office cautioned.
Affected areas include Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, East of England, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North East England, North West England, Northern Irelands, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Stratclyde, Wales, West Midlands, and Yorkshire & Humber.

WXChartsThe alert was in place for Highlands & Eilean Siar and Strathclyde and lasted for the entirety of Sunday.
Between 100-150mm of rain was expected in the region, whilst on west-facing hills, 200mm was predicted.
Drivers were cautioned by the weather office to take care when travelling, as conditions on the road could be dangerous.
Warning of flooding, the Met Office said that "fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life" and some "homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings".
