The damp weather follows scorching temperatures and wildfires across Europe as extreme weather warnings are issued.
Corfu has seen evacuations due to wildfires burning and British airlines are no longer taking people out to Rhodes.
The UK Foreign Office issued a warning to British holidaymakers, it reads:“Heatwave and wildfires in Europe: Extreme temperatures are affecting many areas of Greece and there are a number of active wildfires. If you are a British national affected by wildfires, please follow the guidance from the emergency services.”
Southern Europe and the Mediterranean have also been hit with extreme heat and torrential downpours have caused flash flooding.
Active fires have been burning for the past few days across Europe
Copernicus EFFIS
According to the Copernicus EFFIS site, active fires have been burning for the past few days.
Wildfires are no unusual, but with this year’s very dry conditions and lengthy extreme heat episode, local winds are now creating real danger.
"It has been announced that, for today, Monday, the risk of fire will be extreme in several regions of Greece. Conditions remain difficult. The attention of all of us is necessary," the Greek fire department told Net weather.
