Britons are set to bask in sunshine when a mini-heatwave hits

Temperatures are to surge this week with Britain set to be engulfed in 23C heat and sunny conditions.

The majority of England will see temperatures in their low 20s while Western areas will enjoy the warmest and sunniest days.

Southern coasts will experience breezier days but conditions are expected to remain dry.

Other areas could still see warm weather or will brighten up gradually through the morning, NetWeather senior forecaster Jo Farrow said.

UV levels will also remain high as Britons are warned to apply sunscreen even in warm, overcast conditions.

Forecasters suggest that Scotland's inland regions could experience the highest temperature recorded this year.

Farrow said: “Wales, Northern Ireland, sheltered NW England and western Scotland will all see temperatures into the twenties Celsius.

"Western central Scotland should see the highest temperatures with 24/25C possibly 26C by Wednesday.”

Weather experts expect temperatures in London to be around 20C, potentially rising to 23C over the weekend.

However, during the evening, temperatures in many areas will drop to single figures.

The Met Office predict that the beginning of June will see settled conditions while western areas will continue to bask in bright and dry conditions.

The weather service’s long range forecast said: “Some low cloud is likely in eastern areas each day, but this will tend to burn back towards the North Sea coastline during the day.

“There is the very small risk of a shower in the south, and isolated patchy drizzle along eastern coasts.

“Temperatures will continue to be warmest towards the west, with an onshore wind making it feel cooler in eastern areas, especially the southeast where winds will be strongest.

“Towards the end of this period, the chance of showers in the south may start to increase.

"Further north, the generally fine pattern is likely to continue.”
