UK weather forecast: Britons brace for 'mini-heatwave' as mercury higher than Barcelona next weekend

Barcelona will see its 25C temperatures slip back to 24C next weekend, forecasts have shown.

Daytime temperatures in the UK in October tend to hover around 13C.

However, the Met Office has suggested Britons could face a peak on October 7.

Greg Dewhurst, senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office, previously said: "There are signs that if we get enough sunshine on Monday (details uncertain at this stage) we could see temperatures climb to around 25C in the southeast of England but then fresher air moving in soon after this."

Forecasting website NetWeather indicated that London and the East of England could even witness 26C.

Mercury will likely fall back slightly following the “mini-heatwave” over the weekend.

Despite temperatures dipping, mercury will remain higher than average across much of the country for at least a fortnight.

The UK’s national weather service said in its October 4 to October 15 forecast: “Thursday is likely to see some rain or showers in the northwest, along with some stronger winds, while southeastern areas remain dry.

“Over the following few days, a northwest-southeast split is likely to continue.

“Where this split lies, however, is more uncertain than usual.

“Northwestern areas are most prone to further rain, while further southeast drier weather is more likely, with some early morning mist and fog patches possible here.

“Away from the northwest, there is potential for temperatures to become notably warm by day.

“Beyond this, conditions are likely to trend more widely unsettled for a time, with the wettest and windiest conditions likely towards the northwest.

“Temperatures are likely to trend downwards and feel cooler than earlier in the period, although remain near or above the seasonal average.”
