Weather maps are indicating that Britain will see an imminent spike in temperature

Temperatures across the UK look set to soar as an Iberian jet stream approaches.

Britons will get the opportunity to soak up the last of the summer next week according to the latest weather maps.


The summer has seen disappointing temperatures across many parts of the UK but temperatures could reach as high as 24C as we head into the autumn.

Weather maps are indicating that between September 2-6, Britain will bake in sunshine.

Temperatures across the UK look set to soar as an Iberian jet stream approaches.

A jet stream heading from Spain along the coast of France before arriving in the UK could trigger soaring temperatures across Britain for the first weekend of September.

According to forecasters Net Weather and WX charts, London, East Anglia and the Midlands will see temperatures as high as 24C across next weekend.

Leeds, Manchester and other parts of the north of England are expected to reach a similar temperature during the first few days of September.

Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at the British Weather Service has said that Britain could hit 30C in September.

Dale said: "The all-time high in September is 35C in 1906 so we have some way to get to that.

"Having said that, 30C is entirely possible and is not unknown.

"There is no reason why some of the heat in the Mediterranean and southern Europe won’t eventually meander itself in our direction.

"It just depends on whether we can get the right situation and draw in some very warm air from the continent."

The weather warning started at 11am and is in place until 8pm tonight.

He told the Express: "Before we get there we have some mixed weather to come that is for sure. We can see it quite clearly this weekend."

It comes as parts of Britain are being battered by a thunderstorm today.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning across northern England affecting Newcastle upon Tyne, Sheffield, Leeds and Hull.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some localised flooding and disruption today.

The weather warning started at 11am and is in place until 8pm tonight.
