The heatwave could last for eight days into next month

Britain looks set for some unseasonably warm weather with temperatures of up to 24C, according to the latest weather maps.

The heatwave could last for eight days into October following Storm Agnes which brought high winds and heavy rain.

According to the latest weather maps, the first few days of October will see temperatures hit mid-20s.

But despite some cold nights, forecasters say conditions will be "above average" for this time of year.

Weather experts warn that next month's heatwave will mainly hit the South East and East Anglia.

However, conditions will remain mixed with some predictions of light rain and a gentle breeze.

It follows Storm Agnes which has battered Britain, bringing gales of up to 80mph and flooding across Ireland.

The Met Office issued a yellow alert which remained in place until 7am this morning, as strong winds and heavy rain caused power cuts and travel disruption.
