A forecaster has predicted sunshine totals to be above normal in most regions, particularly the south and west

Britons can look forward to a glorious start to summer, with two weeks of hot temperatures set to strike in June.

Temperatures are forecast to be around 1 to 2C above normal in the first two weeks of the upcoming month, with maps from Netweather turning orange and red as the heat rises.

In models running up until June 14, the weather forecaster predicts that balmy highs of up to 26C will sweep across much of the country.

From June 3 to June 9, it is likely there will be “plenty of dry and sunny weather in Northern Ireland, Wales and western and southern England, and probably also in south-west Scotland”, Netweather’s monthly forecast predicts.

It expects that the week will be drier than average, with sunshine totals predicted to be above normal in most areas, particularly the south and west.

Coupled with the beautiful sunshine is a prediction of pleasant temperatures, with parts of western and especially south-western Britain expected to come out warmer than average.

Looking ahead to the week commencing Monday 10, Netweather predicts that the sunny weather will be replaced with wet conditions in a “cyclonic weather week”.

“It looks likely that pressure will fall substantially over the eastern North Atlantic, allowing low pressure to push in from the west, resulting in increasingly unsettled and wet weather for most of the UK,” the forecaster predicts.

In some areas, the amount of rainfall will be “above normal for most”. However, the forecaster predicts that despite the damp conditions, the merucry will still be pleasant.

Netweather said: “We can expect above-average temperatures during this week, but not exceptionally so, probably by between 1 and 2C in most parts of the UK.”

This week marks the end of spring with Saturday marking the start of the meteorological summer.

Despite a pleasant start to the bank holiday, the weekend ended with a washout which has continued into the new week.

Yesterday, the Met Office issued three yellow thunderstorm warnings for England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The alert for Scotland is currently in place and expires at 7.00pm today.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, the Met Office warned.

Around 30-40mm of rain could fall in just a few hours along with lightning strikes.

The possibility of flooding is also prevalent in homes and businesses, with some communities facing the prospect of being temporarily cut off due to flooded roads.
