Storm warnings have been upgraded to amber for much of the south of Britain and a number of schools are facing closure.
Schools in Southampton and across Hampshire will shut amid 'risk to life as well as in Devon, Suffolk, Dorset and in parts of Kent.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Resilience Forum made the decision to close schools with winds of up to 80mph (128km/h) forecast across the two counties.
In Southampton, Sholing Infant School, Great Oaks School, Foundry Lane Primary School, Shirley Warren LC Primary and Nursery School, City College Southampton, Valentine Primary School, Springhill Catholic Primary School, Vermont School, Mason Moor Primary School, Compass School, Fairisle Junior School are all closed.
As well as St Denys Primary School, Bitterne Park School, Oasis Academy Mayfield, Portswood Primary School, St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Cantell School, Maytree Nursery and Infants School, Woolston Infant School, Itchen Sixth Form College, St Mary's Primary School, St Johns Primary and Nursery School, Weston Shore Infant School.
Also closed Newlands Primary School, Bassett Green Primary School, Redbridge Primary School, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Bitterne CE Primary School, Mansel Park Primary School, Bitterne Park Primary School, Sinclair Primary and Nursery School
Also in Southampton, Bitterne Manor Primary School, Sholing Junior School, Tanners Brook Primary School,Mansbridge Primary School, Shirley Infant School, Shirley Junior School, Harefield Primary School, Beechwood Junior School, Oakwood Primary School, Mount Pleasant Junior School, Regents Park Community College, Banister Primary School, Weston Secondary, Moorlands Primary School, Springwell School, Woodlands Community College, St George Catholic College, St Mark's CE Primary School, Bevois Town Primary School, The Cedar School, St Anne's Catholic School are all closed.
Meanwhile, Isle of Wight Council has set up information hubs for islanders who have been affected by the weather and flooding.
In an email to residents, Southampton City Council said there was "a risk of damage to buildings and falling trees leading to a potential risk to life".
Contacting parents, Springhill Catholic Primary School in the city said the "incoming storm has been declared a major incident and all schools are to close".
Over ten schools have already announced their closures in Suffolk.
A number of schools across Devon are also set to close their doors to both staff and pupils tomorrow.
According to Devon County Council's website, schools including St Thomas Primary School, Shaldon Primary School and Holsworthy Community College, Tavistock College, Brayford Academy, Bridestowe Primary School, Teignmouth Community School, Mill Lane, Ipplepen Primary School, Teignmouth Community School, Feniton Church Of England Primary Schoolwill all be closed tomorrow.
Other schools including King Edward VI Community College and Kingsbridge Community College, Holsworthy Community College, St Thomas Primary School, Alphington Primary School, Mill Water Schoolwill also remain shut.
A school in Kent has also announced it will shut. The Sir John Leman High School in Beccles said it would close.
Ms Ruth Gurney, headteacher, said on social media: "In light of the current and anticipated high winds and rainfall we will not be able to open tomorrow for safety reasons on site but also, perhaps more significantly, for travel.
"I hope you appreciate that these decisions are made with the safety of all of our community as our priority and apologise for the inconvenience."
