Met Office shuts down '700-mile wide blizzard' warnings - 'It's far too early!'

Reports had suggested snow would blanket Britain in just a few days time
The Met Office has shut down warnings of an alleged “700-mile wide blizzard”, insisting that it is “far too early” to say whether the claim is true.
This news has followed various forecasts that Britain is set to receive a thick covering of snow, accompanied by glacial temperatures.
Data from WX Charts had suggested that areas across Scotland and Northern Ireland are set to face sub-zero temperatures, leading to a period of heavy snowfall.
However, a spokesperson for the Met Office has said that the rest of the week is set to be “relatively mild” and “generally dry”, although there is set to be a change this weekend.
WXCharts has forecast exceedingly low temperatures, which is expected to bring snowfall

They said: “The rest of this week is still relatively mild, or temperatures close to actually the time of year and generally dry, but we are going to see a change this weekend, so much colder and more unsettled conditions developing.
“That means windier conditions and also wetter conditions for most of the UK, and with that, it will turn cold enough for some snow over highest ground.
“We're not expecting widespread snow at lower levels at this stage.
“A fairly typical autumnal pattern with low pressure dominating and hill snow primarily across northern hills, but it will turn much colder and, compared to the last couple of weeks, it will feel very different irrespective of where you are in the UK.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
The Met Office has confirmed that there will be some snow in remote higher areas in a week’s time.
However, a spokesman from the UK's national weather service added: “There’s still time for things to change.
“It's just too far ahead to be putting kind of details on it at this stage.”
Sharing his thoughts on social media on the wider forecast for Europe, climate expert David Birch has said: "One must remember these images are from long range forecast 12+ days."
David Birch has added that if the forecasts were true, it would verify that "the UK will be under a significant period of cold and snow", despite milder conditions forecast by the Met Office

He added that if the forecasts were true, it would verify that "the UK will be under a significant period of cold and snow."
Contrary to reports, the Met Office's official forecast said: "Turning more unsettled into next weekend with low pressure probably becoming established close to the UK bringing rain or showers to most regions.
"The heaviest and most frequent spells of rain are most likely in the north and west. Drier and brighter spells of weather remain possible, particularly in southern regions.
"Some wintry precipitation is possible in places, with snow most likely to fall over high ground in the north."
