Families paid up to £4,000 for breaks at the hotel in the Mediterranean

As many as 25 tourists are thought to have been affected by a food poisoning outbreak at a five-star resort in Turkey.

At least one of the British holidaymakers, who is on all-inclusive deals with holiday firm TUI, has been hospitalised.

Families paid up to £4,000 to stay at the Rixos Sungate in the Turkish Riviera, which is home to 13 bars and restaurants including a "world food" buffet and sushi diner.

One holidaymaker claimed there were “more than 10 families suffering” and “numbers are growing by the day”.

Kate Dowling tweeted: “My family are in Rixos Sungate – three out of five have food poisoning with one hospitalised. Staff are not doing anything to help, denying all knowledge even though other guests have complained.”

She added: “The mother of the children is currently unwell with two children while their father is in hospital with their other child.

“She has asked for help from staff members to no avail? Absolutely horrendous customer service.

"The father in hospital with his daughter are both without clean clothes or phone charger to remain contact.

“Something needs to be done as the hotel are not accepting any responsibility and offering no support! Everybody passing the baton of responsibility!”

The 1,076-room resort is in Kemer on Turkey’s southern coast and also has a water park alongside 12 swimming pools.

The resort has a 4.5 out of five-star ranking on Tripadvisor and TUI describes it as a “platinum” venue that is “tailored for families”.

Last May, the holiday company paid out £232,000 to eight Britons who suffered food poisoning at a resort in Lanzarote.

"Our health and safety team are investigating in close collaboration with the hotel and we will remain in frequent contact with our guests.

"We’d like to reassure all customers that we regularly audit all of our hotels in respect to health and safety, including hygiene."
