Thailand is currently facing heavy rains and flooding

Britons have been issued a fresh travel warning for holiday paradise Thailand.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) made holidaymakers aware of heavy rains and flooding in parts of the country.

Thailand is a popular holiday destination, famous for its delectable cuisine, idyllic beaches, mind-blowing treks and incredible landscapes.

But Britons visiting the South Asian spot have been warned about adverse weather conditions in recent days.

Britons were told: "Thailand is currently facing heavy rains and flooding in parts of the country, including widespread flooding in northern Thailand.

"Local authorities have issued warnings related to areas near the Ping River, including in central Chiang Mai."

Holidaymakers were advised to "remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities".

Before visiting Thailand, Britons should consult the FCDO's website for up-to-date guidance on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, regional risks, health and getting help.

There are some areas in Thailand the FCDO advises against travel to. Britons are advised to heed the FCDO's guidance.

Areas where FCDO advises against all but essential travel

The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to parts of the south, near the Thailand-Malaysia border:

  • Pattani Province
  • Yala Province
  • Narathiwat Province
  • southern Songkhla Province – south of the A43 road between Hat Yai and Sakom, and south of the train line which runs between Hat Yai and Padang Besar

FCDO also advises against all but essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line that runs through these provinces.

This is due to regular terrorist attacks in the provinces by the border with Malaysia.

Holidaymakers were also issued an Africa travel warning as tourists risk falling victim to terrorism and kidnap.
