Holidaymakers have been advised to heed new guidance for Bahrain

Britons have been issued a travel warning for Bahrain, due to current tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

While Bahrain may not be the most popular holiday destination among British tourists, it has been described as a "hidden gem in the Middle East" by loveholidays.

The travel company said: "An interesting pearling past brought Bahrain into the spotlight centuries ago, and Bahrain proudly reflects this rich history today.

"Now known for its Formula 1 Grand Prix and the lively and modern capital of Manama, Bahrain draws in intrepid adventurers looking for some sun in the Gulf."

But before planning a trip to the "hidden gem" destination, it's important to heed essential travel advice.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told Britons: "Ongoing hostilities between Israel and Lebanon could escalate quickly and pose risks for the wider region.

"Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast.

"Follow and contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can also get email notifications when this travel advice is updated."

Britons were also encouraged to "read the FCDO advice if you’re affected by a crisis abroad".

This includes information on how the FCDO defines a crisis, who and how they can help in a crisis, what to do in a crisis, how to prepare for a potential crisis, support in the UK and terrorist attacks abroad.

Holidaymakers visiting Bahrain should also consult the FCDO for essential information on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, health and getting help.

It is advisable to consult the UK Goverment's guidance before any abroad holiday.
