While an imminent threat has not been identified, Britons should be aware of potential risks

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has updated its travel advice for Ireland, warning British travellers about demonstrations that can occur without notice.

The new guidance, added to the 'Safety and security' page of the FCDO's Ireland travel advice, specifically highlighted the potential for sudden protests, particularly in urban areas.

The FCDO stated: "Demonstrations, political gatherings, or marches can take place with little or no warning, particularly in cities."

The advisory noted that while "most demonstrations are peaceful, they can cause disruption, including to transport routes."

Transport disruption could impact holidaymakers who are travelling around Ireland or heading to airports or ferry ports at the end of their trip.

For travellers who find themselves near demonstrations, the FCDO advised them to "remain aware of what is happening around you and follow the advice of the police and local authorities".

The updated travel advice formed part of the FCDO's routine safety information for British nationals abroad.

Ireland is a popular destination among British holidaymakers, where visitors can enjoy lush green landscapes, drink world-class Guinness, and immerse themselves in culture by attending Irish music, dance and sporting events.

According to Global Citizens Solutions, Ireland is the second safest country in Europe, with Iceland claiming the top spot.

However, despite being a safe country, it's always best to be prepared before visiting.

For the most up-to-date information, Britons should consult the FCDO's dedicated Ireland travel advice web page.

This includes the latest information on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, health, and getting help.

Offering specific guidance on Ireland's crime risks, the FCDO advised: "Take precautions to reduce the risk of bag-snatching or pickpocketing. Avoid carrying valuables and large amounts of money.

"Lock your vehicle and park where possible in a secure car park. Most incidents occur in the larger cities."

To ensure a safe, well-informed trip, Britons should always check the travel advice for their chosen destination before going abroad.

In a recent warning to holidaymakers, the FCDO highlighted the risk of sexual assault in a tourist destination.

Officials shared that the majority of reported attacks have occurred in coastal resort areas during the tourist season.
