Holidaymakers in Cuba have been made aware of new developments

Britons have been issued a fresh travel warning for Cuba as a power outage could affect holidaymakers.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told tourists to monitor the local media for updates in the Caribbean country.

The FCDO stated: "Cuba experienced a nationwide electrical grid shutdown from October 18 to October 21 following the failure of a major power plant.

"The power supply has been restored in many areas, but a schedule of outages remains in place to restrict electricity usage.

"You should take precautions including conserving water, food, and mobile phone charge, and monitor local media for updates, including on power cut schedules."

Cuba is a stunning holiday destination. Known for its diverse settings - from lively Havana to beachy Varadero - dramatic landscapes, warm locals and rich history, there's so much to experience in this Caribbean country.

However, before travelling there, Britons should consult the FCDO's up-to-date guidance to ensure a safe, well-informed trip.

This includes the latest information on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, health and getting help.

Before travelling abroad, holidaymakers should always consult the FCDO's latest guidance on their chosen destination.

In recent days, Britons have been given a number of travel warnings to heed.

Holidaymakers planning a trip to Germany were warned that they risk catching an "infectious disease" that causes "chills and exhaustion".
