In a new travel advisory, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned holidaymakers that terrorists are "likely" to attempt attacks in Belgium.
The warning comes amid ongoing security concerns in the European nation, which has experienced several terrorist incidents in recent years.
The FCDO shared that "the main threat comes from extremists linked to Daesh, formerly known as ISIL".
In October 2023, a terrorism-related shooting in Brussels resulted in two fatalities and one serious injury.

Holidaymakers were warned that potential attacks could strike "indiscriminately" across Belgium, including areas visited by tourists.
Places frequented by foreign nationals
- Public transport
- National and international transport hubs
- Music, sporting and cultural events
- Entertainment establishments and nightlife venues
- Government buildings and international institutions
- Places of worship and religious sites
Although Belgian authorities have successfully disrupted multiple planned attacks and made several arrests, the serious threat level continues to warrant heightened safety measures and "vigilance" in public places.
Visitors should closely follow the advice of local authorities, who maintain enhanced security measures under the Level 3 'Serious' threat status.
The public can expect to see an increased police presence throughout Belgium, and additional safety measures may be in place.
Sharing general information on Britons' risk from terrorism abroad, the FCDO warned: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times."
