The latest advice for travelling to Greece has changed

Getting ready for a holiday is exciting but it is still important to look out for the latest travel advice and to make sure all appropriate checks have been made.

Those travelling to Greece have been urged to be careful due to extreme weather conditions that can "change quickly". Ongoing warnings are also in place for Spain and France.


The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCO) updated its advice with the increasing risk of flood and wildfires. Holidaymakers are urged to check their insurance and for updates from holiday providers.

It said: "Adverse weather conditions, including floods, are affecting some regions. The situation can change quickly. Follow '112 Greece' on Twitter for official updates.

Those travelling to Spain should be prepared

"Very high temperatures are affecting many areas of Greece.

"There are active wildfires across Greece, including in populated areas on the mainland and a number of islands.

"Wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable."

Britons are encouraged to check that it is still safe to travel in the area they are planning to visit, and to make sure they have comprehensive insurance.

Holidaymakers planning a trip to Spain should also take note of similar advice.

There are currently warnings in place over extreme temperatures and Britons must be prepared when heading abroad.

The FCO stated: "Extreme temperatures are currently affecting many areas of Spain.

"For severe weather warnings and updates, visit the Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET) and European Meteorological Services website.

"You should check with your travel provider before travelling and follow the advice of local authorities at all times."

Travel advice has been updated for those visiting France.

There are no obvious risks, but those travelling are urged to get the correct travel insurance and to be prepared.

The FCO said: "If you choose to travel, research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency."
