A Spanish town is bribing Britons to move abroad with the offer of £2,600 per person.

Ponga, a town and municipality in northwestern Spain, is looking to incentivise people to move there to boost its local economy.

It is offering a cash reward to those who chose to relocate, a long with an additional £2,600 for each baby born there.

The town gets around 2,000 hours of sunshine every year.

In comparison, the UK receives an average of 1,387 hours of sun.

The only catch for those looking to take Ponga up on the offer is that they must live in the town for five years.

Britons have been on the receiving end of a number of offers recently to try and persuade them to leave the United Kingdom and move abroad.

In February the Western Australia regional government launched an audacious advertising campaign vowing to "steal" workers.

A total of 31,000 vacancies were advertised for Britons in the area.

Police and Defence Industry Minister Paul Papalia promised those who took the leap would be "taken care of", joking: "Many of our ancestors were sent from the UK to Australia as convicts.

"Now, it would be a crime not to make the move."

He added: "We are here to steal your workers by offering them a better life in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Western Australia is a fantastic place to live and work.

"Our wages are higher and our cost of living is lower. Our health system is world class. You will be taken care of."
