New routes to Spain announced from a major UK airport giving more opportunities to visit holiday hotspot

The Spanish low-cost carrier will operate daily services to both destinations, strengthening its position as a key airline connecting the UK with Spain.

The expansion marks a significant boost to Vueling's presence at London's main hub airport.

Bilbao, renowned for its industrial heritage, offers visitors the "iconic" Guggenheim Museum among its cultural attractions.

The city has emerged as a culinary destination, featuring local specialities such as pintxos, the region's bite-sized delicacies.

Food enthusiasts can explore traditional dishes including txuletas, a special sirloin steak, and kokotxas, a flavourful fish stew.

The city also serves as a gateway to the "beautiful beaches" of the Basque Country (of which Bilbao is the largest city).

Santiago de Compostela stands as one of Spain's "most historically significant and beautiful" cities.

It marks the final destination of the renowned St James Way pilgrimage route, which takes pilgrims through different routes across Spain, France and Portugal.

Visitors can experience the city's "rich" atmosphere in its "picturesque" town squares, enjoying local specialities like Galician cider.

The destination is also celebrated for its outstanding seafood offerings, which can be savoured while taking in the historic surroundings.

Heathrow Airport's new services complement Vueling's existing operations from London Gatwick, which currently offers 21 weekly flights to Bilbao. London Gatwick also maintains five weekly flights to Santiago de Compostela.

With the addition of the new routes, London will be connected to Bilbao with up to 28 weekly flights.

The combined service to Santiago de Compostela will reach 12 weekly flights between both London airports.

Vueling's network expansion includes connections between London and other northern Spanish cities.

The airline currently operates flights from the British capital to A Coruña in Galicia. Services to Oviedo in Asturias are also part of Vueling's northern Spain network from London.
