Spain is one of the most popular places for Britons to holiday in, offering sunny weather, great food and a vibrant culture.
However, new data showed it is no longer the most sought-after destination for UK holidaymakers as they set their sights on other European cities.
Amsterdam and Paris both proved more appealing to Britons, according to analysis of popular flight searches compiled by One Sure Insurance.
It showed a surge in interest for European destinations such as Budapest, Krakow and Athens, with Amsterdam having the highest search overall.
Flights to Amsterdam had the most searches

Most sought-after European destinations
- Amsterdam - 42,000 searches
- Paris - 26,000 searches
- Barcelona - 20,000 searches
- Edinburgh - 16,000 searches
- Rome - 14,000 searches
- Budapest - 11,000 searches
- Krakow - 11,000 searches
- Milan - 9,700 searches
- Istanbul - 9,300 searches
- Athens - 7,100 searches
Barcelona, Spain, dropped to third place on the list, and it was the only Spanish destination featured at all. The experts explained many people are looking elsewhere for their holidays.
A One Sure Insurance spokesperson said: “We’re seeing a trend of more adventurous travellers who are looking to explore beyond the usual hotspots.
"While cities like Paris and Rome continue to dominate, there’s an increasing interest in destinations that offer a unique blend of history, culture, and cost-effectiveness."
In recent months and years, Britons have threatened to boycott Spain as anti-tourist protests have taken place in parts of the country.
The experts explained this could be one of the reasons behind a drop in searches for Spanish destinations, and an increase in interest for other places.
