The best UK spots to visit for a winter walk have been shared

Wrapping up warm for a winter walk is something many families will do during the festive break.

Experts have shared the best winter destinations with great walks.


Bakewell in Derbyshire was voted as the top hidden destination in research by Sally's Cottages.

It looked at factors including social media metrics, the average snowfall and festive sentiments.

From the data, the winter destinations that have the most festive walking routes were shared.

Bakewell topped the list again, followed by Grasmere and Bowness-on-Windermere, both in the Lake District.

The experts said: "Is Christmas even Christmas without some fun family walks?

"Stretching your legs after eating far too much chocolate is a go-to festive activity, so finding some secret spots with beautiful walks is what we’re all about. Here are our favourite spots."

Bakewell is home to the Monsal Trail which is a stunning view.

A reviewer on Tripadvisor said: "There are beautiful views of the Peak District and lots of atmospheric Victorian railway tunnels along the way."

Another added: "Monsal head view point is beautiful."

This comes as research found the best spot for a staycation in the UK.

Castle Combe in Wiltshire came up top, according to Photography experts at Lafayette Photography.

It looked at 50 renowned British walks to see which had gathered the most traction on social media.
