A holiday is an opportunity to relax and escape from day-to-day stresses.

The most tranquil places to visit on holiday have been shared and number one was a sunny European destination that Britons can reach for as little as £41.


Crete took the top spot in the data compiled by travel experts at SkyParkSecure.

They looked at the number of spas, nature and wildlife tours, air pollution levels and number of beaches to compile their list.

The number of hotels with yoga facilities and a low air pollution score helped push Crete to the top of the list.

At the time of writing, flights to the holiday destination start from as little as £41 if travelling from London to Crete Heraklion in April.

Those visiting in the summer months can enjoy pleasant temperatures of around 29ºC.

Britons willing to travel further for a relaxing holiday can head to Phuket or Dubai, which ranked third and fourth on the list.

Those looking to stay closer to home can head to the only spot that ranked in the UK - London.

While this is the bustling capital city, it has nearly 800 spas and ranked highest on the number of lakes, with 15 bodies of water.
