Britons hoping to move abroad should look no further than the Algarve in Portugal, according to a travel expert

Portugal is a beloved European destination among British tourists and expats alike.

For those looking to relocate to the beautiful country, the Algarve - Portugal's southernmost region - might be your best bet. One visitor described the Algarve's Ponta da Piedade, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Portugal, as "heaven on earth".

According to Expatica, the Algarve is one of the "best places to live in Portugal as an expat".

Lisbon, Porto and Braga are Portugal's three biggest cities, making them obvious draws for expats looking for great shopping, buzzy nightlife, and generally a bit of hustle and bustle.

However, the Algarve region, brimming with beaches, resorts and seafood restaurants, makes for the perfect relaxation spot.

Travel experts at Expatica stated that the Algarve region "boasts some of the most beautiful beaches and golf resorts in Portugal".

They said: "Coupled with the fact that the area receives glorious weather most of the year, it’s no surprise it is a major holiday destination and home to thousands of expats."

For decades the Algarve has been popular among retirees looking to enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle.

But while the Algarve might be the ideal place to relocate if you're looking for a sun, sea and sand type of stay, it might not come too cheap.

The experts explained: "They often target the apartment developments close to the beaches, and naturally, prices are higher here than in other areas."

Popular cities in the Algarve are Albufeira, Lagos, Faro and Portimao. One site expats must visit in Portugal is the scenic point Ponta da Piedade.

One visitor took to Tripadvisor and called it an "incredible" place. They said: "Wow I never heard of this place until I experienced it via a wonderful excursion and this place blew my mind. It’s literally heaven on earth. This is a must-see place if you're in Portugal. The wonder of the rock formations is something to behold."

Another said: "Beautiful beaches. The sand is the nicest I've ever seen. Worth the walk. The coastal boardwalk is lovely and we also did it the night before to watch the sunset. Amazing scenery. The beaches and sea are so clean."

Portugal may be a stunning place to relocate, but one expert warned that a certain aspect "might be shocking".
