Want to ditch your current broadband contract at no cost? Vodafone is offering an early exit

Fed up with your current broadband speed, or paying over-the-odds for your internet? For a limited time, switch to a full-fibre plan from Vodafone and the company will pay up to £100 towards any early termination fees from your current supplier.

The promotion is designed to help broadband customers who would otherwise be stuck with their current provider. Rather than wait-out the end of your current contract term — usually between 18- and 24-months, depending on the company — you can switch to something new today.

Vodafone first launched its £100 switchover giveaway back in April ahead of annual price increases to incentivise Britons to switch.

And now, the company — the fourth-biggest broadband provider in the country — is banging the drum again due to the launch of the faster One Touch Switching (OTS) between home internet providers.

Unfortunately, only those who sign-up for the Full Fibre 500 (500Mbps) and Full Fibre 910 (910Mbps) packages will qualify for the £100 credit towards early termination fees from your current contract. If you opt for the Full Fibre 150 plan, you'll only get £50 to pay-off an existing broadband deal.

To work out how much it'll cost to buy your way out of your existing contract, you'll need to reach out to your current provider.

And of course, if you’re already outside the minimum contract term with your current provider, you can switch to one of Vodafone’s broadband plans at no cost. It's only if you're still within this contract term that a penalty when trying to switch early will apply.

Vodafone is currently charging £26 per month for its Full Fibre 150 plan, which offers download speeds of roughly 150Mbps. You’ll get a guaranteed download speed of 75Mbps. That minimum guaranteed download speed is faster than the current average home broadband speed in the UK, which sits around 69Mbps, according to the latest figures shared by Ofcom.

For comparison, BT-owned EE charges £33.99 for the same Full Fibre 150 speeds. However, that brand is currently offering three months for free — so you won't see any money leave your bank account towards broadband costs until early January. That's a saving of £101.97.

While there's definitely advantages to swerving monthly bills for the next three months, especially with Christmas on the horizon, the EE Full Fibre 150 deals ends up being more expensive than Vodafone Full Fibre 150 with its lower cost each and every month.

Both of these deals have a 24-month contract term.

Sky Broadband currently charges £28 a month for the same Full Fibre 150 download speeds. However, if you're looking to upgrade your television package, you might be able to unlock bigger savings by bundling with the best Sky Stream deals or best Sky Glass deals.

If you have BT, EE, Sky, TalkTalk, and Plusnet broadband at your address ...you’ll be able to connect with Vodafone. That’s because all these brands rely on infrastructure from BT-owned Openreach.

Speaking about the £100 promotion, Vodafone Consumer Director, Rob Winterschladen said: "Thanks to the launch of One Touch Switch, switching broadband providers has never been easier. Customers who have been discouraged from getting the best deal by an often difficult and time-consuming process can now do so easily. We hope that customers will find that switching is no longer hard work – they just need to speak to us and we will take care of the rest – meaning they get Vodafone’s reliable Full Fibre Broadband for less without the hassle."

The long-delayed “One Touch” switch system allows customers to switch between rival broadband infrastructure in the UK — like Virgin Media’s full-fibre network, which connects to roughly 16 million homes, to smaller operators like HyperOptic and Community Fibre, as well as BT-owned Openreachwithout any hassle. For the first time, when moving between these brands, there’s no need to contact your current supplier. Instead, your new supplier will sort everything behind the scenes.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

If that sounds familiar, it's because this seamless behind-the-scenes experience already exists... but only for those who move between brands that operate on Openreach cables, like BT, EE, Sky, TalkTalk, and Plusnet, to name just a few. For the first time, regulators will insist that those moving between full-fibre networks enjoy the same experience.

That means if your new provider is unable to connect you on the date agreed, you’ll receive compensation. You don't need to take action, the money will be sent automatically. The “One Touch” switch system has been delayed multiple times, and even now, it's a staggered roll-out across the UK, so it might not be available at your address today — but stay tuned.
