"We want to alert you to a concerning trend," cautioned a Sky spokesperson

  • Scammers have set-up a fraudulent helpline for distressed Sky users
  • Calling this number will charge you as much as £10 every minute
  • A brief call could leave you out-of-pocket, with scammers cashing-in
  • Calls to the legitimate customer service phoneline should not cost you

Millions of Sky television, broadband, and mobile customers are at-risk from a devastating new scam that could leave them hundreds of pounds out of pocket, the broadcaster has warned.

Scammers have set up fraudulent customer service hotline to trick Sky customers desperately looking for help. If you're duped into calling this counterfeit hotline, you'll be charged £10 per minute — money that goes straight into the scammers' accounts.

Fraudsters have also launched websites that mirror their genuine counterparts from Sky, which are designed to trick as many people as possible into calling the premium phone number for support.

If you need to contact the Sky helpline, the genuine number is 0333 759 1018.

Following the steps on its online resources to get help with a Sky TV issue, we were asked to call 0333 759 0938 too, so the number may vary depending on the department that Sky believes is best position to help. It's best to follow the stpe-by-step process yourself, stating here: sky.com/help/contacting-sky

Calls to the customer service helpline are included for Sky Mobile and Sky Talk customers at no extra. If you're not with Sky Mobile or Sky Talk, calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calls to 01 or 02 numbers and are included in your calls package. However, if you don't have a calls package, charges might apply.

What makes the latest scam so distressing is that only those who are already experiencing difficulties will be looking to contact the teams at Sky — whether it's an issue with broadband connections, satellite dish trouble, an unresponsive Sky Stream box, or delivery issues with Sky Glass.

Scammers have manipulated Google search results and launched deceptive adverts to target those seeking support from the teams at Sky. Premium rate phone numbers often begin with a prefix like 084, 087, 090, 091, or 098 and charges callers a much higher rate than standard phone numbers.

These charges are taken from the payment information stored with your phone provider.

"We want to alert you to a concerning trend involving premium rate call sites that are misleading customers seeking to get in touch with us," a spokesperson for Sky shared on its Community Pages.

"These fraudulent sites direct users to phone numbers that charge exorbitant rates—sometimes up to more than £10 per minute — posing as Sky customer service."
