If you missed the blockbuster announcement yesterday, Sky has unveiled the second generation of its Sky Glass TV, promising a “brighter picture and more cinematic sound” on its new all-in-one 4K TV.

Sky Glass, which made its debut in late 2021, is a one-of-a-kind television that's custom-designed by the broadcaster to include everything you need to enjoy its exclusive television channels, on-demand boxsets, sport fixtures, and movies via Wi-Fi. With a single power cable, Sky Glass includes a 4K QLED panel, Dolby Atmos sound, and hands-free voice control — so you can change channels even if you lose the remote control.

This long-awaited sequel — dubbed Sky Glass Gen 2— follows the same formula.

It boasts an upgraded 4K Quantum Dot display capable of producing a brighter picture and an enhanced Dolby Atmos sound system comprised of seven speakers, including a built-in soundbar and dual subwoofer.

There's also a redesigned aluminium stand for a faster, tool-less assembly as well as three new colourways — Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue. The remote and mesh speaker cover are colour-matched too.

The plug-and-play 4K TV comes in three sizes – 43", 55", and 65". Sky Glass Gen 2 is available to buy right now, with next-day delivery included at no extra cost. Prices start from £14 per month.

This follow-up to the original all-in-one TV from Sky boasts an upgraded Quantum Dot display and new viewing modes to personalise the appearance of your favourite shows and sports. There's a new seven-speaker array, including two upward-firing speakers for vocal clarity and a Dolby Atmos-certified soundbar. It's available in 43", 55", and 65" screen sizes, with a choice of three colours — Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue

Sky Glass Gen 2

Sky Glass Gen 2 can be bought outright or via an interest-free 24- or 48-month payment plan.

Of course, if you want to enjoy everything Sky Glass Gen 2 has to offer, you'll need to pair this television with a subscription to Sky TV. These are available as a two-year contract for the biggest savings, or a 31-day rolling contract for those who want the same flexibility as NOW, formerly NOW TV.

Following the introduction of Essential TV last year, Sky TV bundles start from £15 a month.

For that, you'll enjoy access to over 100 live television channels, including Sky Atlantic. The latter is where you'll find the latest must-see dramas from HBO and Sky TV, such as House of the Dragon, The Last Of Us, The Day of the Jackal, Chernobyl, Euphoria, and The White Lotus, to name just a few. It also bundes a subscription to Netflix and discovery+. Given the former has just increased prices in the UK — and Sky shows no sign of following suit — the value of that deal has been bolstered overnight.

From the outside, Sky Glass Gen 2 looks similar to its predecessor. It boasts the same boxy design, large speaker grill for the built-in soundbar, and sleek aluminum stand. But the engineers at Sky TV have reworked almost every element of this all-in-one television

If you want to unlock the complete selection of exclusive Sky TV channels, you'll need to pay £22 a month for its Ultimate TV bundle. That includes live and on-demand content from channels such as Sky Max, MTV, Comedy Central, Sky Documentaries, Sky Comedy, TLC, Sky History, and Sky Witness, to name a few.

Sky Glass Gen 2 is available to order Sky.com, Sky TV stores nationwide, via the Sky TV call centres, as well as Currys.co.uk. These upgraded 4K TVs will be available to view in-store at branches of Currys in the coming weeks if you want to see this new model in the flesh before placing an order.

There's an aerial socket in the back of Sky Glass Gen 2 — alongside 4x HDMI ports — that lets you stream free-to-air channels even if you don't subscribe to a Sky TV bundle.

Even if your subscription to Sky TV lapses, it's possible to watch using the built-in streaming apps, like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, My5, Netflix, Prime Video, and more.

Like the first-generation Glass, this second-generation telly is powered by the firm’s own software, now known as Sky OS, which can learn what viewers enjoy watching and highlight relevant content more quickly, as well as enable them to create curated playlists of shows and control the TV using their voice.

Global Chief Product Officer for Sky and Comcast Fraser Stirling said: "We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps. The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it’s more affordable than ever to get Sky TV."
