For the first time, Sky Glass will be stocked alongside other flatscreens in your local Currys
Sky Glass is now available to buy online and in-store at Currys, following a new partnership with the retailer. To celebrate collaboration, Sky is offering its all-in-one Glass TV with its Sky Ultimate TV package — that includes a subscription to Netflix and 50+ live channels not available on Freeview — starting from just £33 a month.
But this introductory offer will only be available until December 3, meaning it covers the Black Friday period. It's available in-store now, and online via Currys.co.uk from November 7.
When bought from the Sky Store, you'll be able to take delivery of Sky Glass with the same Ultimate TV bundle starting from £14 for the first three months of your contract, rising to £42 a month for the remainder of your contract.
Currys now stocks Sky Glass TVs in-store and online. The all-in-one flatscreen is now available to purchase in 200 stores nationwide, with customers able to see the Smart TV for themselves before taking it home same-day. To celebrate the new partnership, Sky Glass + Ultimate TV will be available for just £33 a month from November 7 until December 3 — beating some of the best Sky Glass deals on Sky's own online store!
Sky Glass will be on display in over 200 Currys stores nationwide, so you can see and hear the benefits of this custom-designed Smart TV in-person before you place an order. Currys tech experts will be trained on Sky Glass to answer any questions in-store before they buy.
Speaking about the launch, which started to roll-out October 31, Sky Chief Consumer Officer, Sophia Ahmad said: "Sky Glass offers the ultimate TV viewing experience, customers who have it tell us they love it, so we always want to find ways for more people to see and try it. We’re excited to be partnering with Currys, the biggest tech retailer, to help bring Sky Glass to the front rooms of even more TV lovers nationwide."
Sky has already worked with Currys to offer its best Sky Stream deals in-store. This small set-top box brings the same software experience as Sky Glass to any flatscreen via HDMI.
Chief Commercial Officer for Currys, Ed Connolly said: "Currys is the home of amazing technology, and we’re delighted to be ranging Sky Glass online and across our store portfolio. The customer demand for Sky Glass is clear, a unique all-in-one solution that brings together amazing content, sound and picture, and now our customers can see and experience Sky Glass at Currys for themselves."
For those who don't know, Sky Glass is a custom-designed Smart TV that bundles everything you need enjoy the latest boxsets, sports fixtures, and movies from Sky TV. It comes equipped with a 4K Ultra HD Quantum Dot display, which is available in 43", 55" and 65" screen sizes, a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, and far-field microphone array for hands-free voice controls.
"It also packs all of the internals from the Sky Stream box, so you can stream dozens of exclusive channels, pause and rewind live television, access catch-up services, exclusive apps and games, and more.
Sky Glass is powered by EntertainmentOS, an operating system designed by the team at Sky TV specifically for this new generation of all-in-one flatscreen that regularly receives new features. Sky rolled-out 300 software updates to EntertainmentOS last year alone.
It ships with a redesigned remote with backlit keys, so you'll know exactly what button to push even on movie night when the lights are off. The remote also has a built-in microphone for voice commands, so you can ask Glass to switch channels, pause what you're currently watching, find shows and films with a specific actor, or make suggestions based on your viewing history.
The team at Sky also regularly adds quirky voice commands to discover in the software — shouting "show me the money!" into your remote will load Jerry Maguire, for example.
Sky Glass eliminates the need for a satellite dish, making it ideal for renters, those in high-rise flats without a communal dish, or anyone who doesn't want a dish affixed to the outside of their home. Since there's no dish, there's no need to organise a visit from an engineer to get everything up-and-running.
Set-up is a case of connecting the power cable and following the on-screen instructions to connect to Wi-Fi or ethernet. Sky Glass has three HDMI ports to connect games consoles, Blu-ray players, and other accessories. Everything is managed via the EntertainmentOS menu, with a dedicated Game Mode included in a recent update.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Sky tells GB News that it has reduced latency by 70% by combing through its software stack for efficiencies. No other picture settings will be adjusted when Auto Game Mode kicks-in.
Since everything is streamed via a broadband connection, you'll need a minimum speed of 25Mbps for 1080p High Definition content, increasing to 30Mbps for 4K Ultra HD viewing. Unlike older set-top boxes from Sky TV, like Sky Q and Sky+ HD, Glass includes HD picture quality as standard.
Sky Ultimate TV package unlocks access to exclusive shows from US network HBO, like The Penguin, Succession, The White Lotus, Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and Mare of Eastown, alongside Sky Originals such as Sweetpea, Brassic, and Chernobyl, and everything included in the Netflix catalogue, like Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and The Gentlemen. Everything is included with a single subscription.
If you cancel, you can connect an aerial to Sky Glass and still watch live television via Freeview, as well as on-demand from BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and Channel 4.
The announcement of Sky Glass coming to Currys stores nationwide comes a few days after the UK broadcaster struck a deal to bring its Sky Stream box to EE shops on every high street. For the first time, the Sky Stream box is available to bundle with broadband contracts from EE, with everything consoldiated into a single monthly bill.
