You'll also benefit from one of the most affordable full-fibre broadband deals around this Boxing Day
Don't worry if you missed out on the swathe of Black Friday broadband deals, Plusnet has an incredible new offer.
Whether you're looking to cut your monthly broadband bills or switch to faster full-fibre speeds so you can stream films, back up photos to the cloud, and more, at peak times — it's going to be tough to beat the latest broadband deal from Plusnet.
For a limited time, the broadband firm will send you a £50 Reward Card when you sign-up to one of its broadband deals. The Reward Card is a prepaid Mastercard that can be spent anywhere that accepts Mastercard which is, pretty much, anywhere.
That means you'll be able to use the free £50 to treat yourself to new clothes or a new gadget in the Boxing Day sales, put the funds towards a holiday in the new year, or even use the prepaid Mastercard to take money off your monthly broadband bills with Plunset — removing any cost for the first few months, depending on the exact package you've picked.
Plusnet relies on Openreach's nationwide network of broadband, so if you're able to connect to BT, Sky Broadband, TalkTalk, and Vodafone, to name just a few — you'll be able to switch to Plusnet without an issue. Since it doesn't own and operate its own full-fibre network, like Virgin Media and smaller brands like Hyperoptic, you're reliant on Openreach to upgrade your local area to full-fibre to access the fastest broadband speeds available.
Plusnet is offering a £50 Reward Card to anyone who signs up for its latest raft of full-fibre broadband deals. If you're able to connect to fibre broadband with BT, Sky, or TalkTalk, then you'll be able to enjoy the same speeds with Plusnet. Its Full Fibre 145 plan is a particularly good deal at £27.99 a month, with average download speeds of 145Mbps — and a guaranteed minimum of 80Mbps. Plusnet has slashed the £20 one-off activation fee, so you'll pay nothing for postage and activation of your new internet package
Fortunately, it comes as a new report from Ofcom showed that 69% of UK homes now have access to superior full-fibre broadband connections.
If you're part of the majority, you'll be able to upgrade to Plusnet's Full Fibre 145 package. As the name implies, this broadband bundle offers download speeds of 145Mbps — that's about twice as fast as the average home internet speed in the UK just a few years ago. For context, Netflix recommends a minimum download speed of 5Mbps to watch its shows and films in 1080p HD.
With 145Mbps under your belt, your broadband will be able to handle streaming from multiple devices around the house in HD without any buffering. You'll also be able to back-up data, make video calls, control smart lights and video doorbells, and other connected devices at the same time.
At just £27.99 per month, this is one of the cheapest package for this full-fibre from a major nationwide broadband. Plusnet has slashed the £20 one-off activation fee, so you'll pay nothing for postage and activation of your new internet package.
For comparison, BT charges £30.99 a month for its 150Mbps speeds, Sky Broadband charges £29 a month for its 150Mbps speeds, and TalkTalk charges £28 a month for its 150Mbps speeds.
Only Vodafone manages to beat Plusnet on price, offering its 150Mbps speeds for just £25 a month. Like Plusnet, this also relies on the same Openreach cables, so will be available in your area. However, you'll have to forgo the £50 Reward Card.
Full-fibre plans from Plusnet carry a 24-month minimum term, so you won't be able to switch to another provider or deal without paying an early termination fee for the first two years. Plusnet is a little ahead of the curve and doesn't include a traditional landline with any of its plans.
You'll enjoy unlimited download usage, free activation, and a Wi-Fi router, dubbed the Plusnet Hub Two.
As you'd expect given the fact that BT is the parent company for Pusnet, its Hub Two shares many of the same features as the BT Smart Hub 2, so expect better handling of dozens of smart home gadgets.
For those with a home brimming with video doorbells, smart speakers, Wi-Fi-connected thermostats, and more... this should provide a big boost for connectivity.
Between the Wi-Fi router and the extra bandwidth provided by the full-fibre connection, you should avoid slowdowns and buffering.
Plusnet will send a £50 Reward Card to anyone who signs-up for its Full Fibre 145, Full Fibre 500, and Full Fibre 900 plans. Unfortunately, the Full Fibre 300 package, which offers downloads of 300Mbps for £30.99 a month, doesn't come with a Reward Card at all, meanwhile, the entry-level Full Fibre 74 with the slowest speeds available from Plusnet for the same £27.99 as the Full Fibre 145 plan, comes with a £30 Reward Card.
If you're unsure about what broadband speed you need in your home. We've put together the average download speeds for an hour-long television show episode in Standard Definition (SD), roughly 450MB in size.
