Nintendo Switch 2 has been sold out for weeks ahead of the June 5 launch

Nintendo Switch 2 stock has returned to Amazon UK — if you're quick.

The feverishly anticipated console will be released in the UK on June 5, 2025. Preorders started back in April and sold out within minutes. Initial stock was so contrained that Nintendo was forced to impose five strict conditions — including the amount of time spent playing games on your existing Switch — before it granted access to its store.

But in the days before the Switch 2 release date, stock seems to be coming back. Mobile network EE was able to restock a fortnight before the launch. And now, Amazon has unexpectedly started to take orders for Switch 2.

There are two versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 available at launch. Nintendo Switch 2 will be available as a standalone console for £395.99. It was also be sold in a bundle with Mario Kart World for for £429.99.

Given that Mario Kart World alone costs£74.99 for a physical Game Card, and £66.99 as a digital purchase from the eShop, the Switch 2 bundle represents a decent saving.

Nintendo Switch 2 stock returns on Amazon days before release date

Amazon is one of the only retailers that has received more stock ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 release on June 5, 2025. If you're desperate to play the hotly anticipated console on launch day, race to the checkout on Amazon. Unfortunately, it's sold-out of the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle for £429.99. So, you'll need to purchase your games separately. Prime members can enjoy next-day delivery at no additional cost

Other Switch 2 games will vary in price, with the new Donkey Kong Bananza title, which was announced during the same 60-minute Direct presentation as the console, will be slightly cheaper at £66.99 for all versions.

Amazon does not have any stock of the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle for £429.99.

If you secure one of the few remaining consoles, you'll need to buy a game to take advantage of this all-new console separately. There are no stock shortages when it comes to software, like Mario Kart World.

As well as physical games, which are installed on a cartridge — like the last console released by Nintendo, the eShop offers digital downloads for all titles.

The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle is still available from the MyNintendo Store. While the Japanese gaming firm has relaxed four out of the five conditions imposed on the first batch of preorders, there is still one requirement before you're able to place a preorder: you must be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online.

This subscription, which starts from £3.49 a month, is required to play multiplayer titles online. You'll need to hold an active subscription before you're able to preorder the console.

The detachable Joy-Con controllers have been updated and now magnetically attach to the Switch 2 console. In addition, either Joy-Con 2 controller can be operated like a computer mouse by sliding it on a surface.

In addition, the kickstand built into the back of the Switch 2 is now fully adjustable for the first time, and the console will include a second USB-C port which can be used for charging or to attach an accessory, such as the new Switch 2 Camera, which is used for social gaming with friends.

Elsewhere, Nintendo say the Switch 2 has significantly improved gaming performance, as well as eight times the storage capacity of the original Switch, with 256GB of built-in storage. The gaming giant also confirmed that a number of original Switch games will be capable with the Switch 2.

And the Switch 2 dock, used to connect the console to a TV, now supports 4K video resolution and 120 frames per second frame rate.

The biggest new feature announced for the Switch beyond the hardware is what Nintendo calls GameChat.

The Discord-like feature enables players to voice chat with up to 12 friends at the same time while playing, and even if they are playing different games.

Users can see feeds of their friends’ gameplay as they play, and up to four friends can share one screen if they want to play together. Attaching the Switch 2 Camera also allows up to four players to see each other’s faces while they chat and play.

Sticking to the social gaming theme, Nintendo also announced a feature called GameShare, which will enable users to share and play multiplayer with friends using a single copy of the game — saving other Switch 2 owners from buying exactly the same titles as their friends for a few multiplayer matches.

Alongside the hardware, a spring of new games were confirmed to be coming to the Switch 2, including console exclusives Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, which launches in July.

In total, Nintendo and its partners announced over 50 games coming to the new console, including several high-profile third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, EA Sports FC and Madden NFL, WWE 2K, Street Fighter 6, and Hogwarts Legacy, to name just a few.
