Stock won't last forever

In case you missed it, Apple will unleash a brand-new MacBook Air in the UK tomorrow morning. This refreshed laptop arrives with a powerful new M4 system-on-a-chip, an improved 12MP webcam, and a new Sky Blue colour.

With the arrival of the new model, Apple has discontinued its M2- and M3-enabled MacBook Air. Both of these lightweight laptops were available to buy starting from £999 and £1,099, respectively, just a few days ago.

While you won't find the M3-powered MacBook Air in your nearest Apple Store or from apple.com anymore, other retailers have slashed the price of their remaining stock ahead of the launch of the M4-equipped model.

Amazon UK has cut MacBook Air M3, launched in the first half of last year, by £200. That drops the price to £899 for a 13" laptop with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage.

Apple charged £1,099 for the same model nationwide until last week.

While it might not be the latest-and-greatest, this M3 MacBook Air is fully compatible with the latest version of macOS and benefits from all of the new functionality added with the arrival of Apple Intelligence late last year.

Save £200 on the MacBook Air at Amazon UK — while stocks last

If you want to secure this MacBook Air, launched worldwide last year, with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage on Amazon, you'll need to act fast. With the launch of a newer M4 variant coming this week, Apple has discontinued the previous generation, so you'll only be able to snap-up this bargain while existing stocks last. At the time of writing, have already sold-out on Amazon

Given that Apple has seemingly shuttered the production line for these older MacBook Air models... you'll need to be quick. Once the discounted laptops have sold out, they will notbe coming back.

Amazon has even labelled the £200 price crash to the MacBook Air as a "limited time deal".

Prime members will unlock next-day delivery nationwide on this cheaper MacBook Air model at no extra cost. Amazon offers the MacBook Air 13" with M3 in Space Grey and Starlight, with the Midnight and Silver colourways already sold out.

Currys price-matches Amazon with £899 MacBook Air M3 deal

Currys has cut a dismal £50 off the M2 version of the MacBook Air, which is a year older than M3, dropping the price tag to just £949. But you'll save even more money by opting for the newer, faster M3 model from the online retailer. That's because it has price-matched Amazon UK with a £200 discount while stocks last

Currys has also cut the cost of older MacBook Air models — but be very careful when adding a laptop to your basket. That's because the high street store is selling the M2-powered model, first released in 2022, for £949. While that is a saving, it's only £50 off the RRP for an almost three-year-old laptop.

If you're looking for a cheaper MacBook Air (not to mention, a better deal), Currys has also price-matched Amazon on the newer, faster M3 model. MacBook Air M3 plummets to £899— an incredible saving compared to its £1,099 price just a fortnight ago.

Argos has taken the opposite approach. While the M3 variant from last year has only dropped to £949, the UK retailer has slashed the older M2 to the lowest price available today. You can secure a MacBook Air with M2 and 8GB of RAM in your choice of Mightnight, Starlight, or Space Grey for just £829.

Argos hasn't cut the price of the newer M3 model to the same level as Amazon and Currys, but it's slashed the M2 variant to an incredible £829. That's a generous £170 saving compared to the RRP. Argos still has stock of all colourways for this MacBook Air, including Space Grey, Silver, Starlight, and Midnight

MacBook Air (M2)
$999 $829

That's a generous £170 off the cost of the same MacBook Air in your local Apple Store last month. Argos offers delivery nationwide or same-day pick-up in your nearest store.

The M4 ditches the Space Grey colour found on the M2- and M3-equipped lineup, and replaces it with a new Sky Blue finish. It joins the Silver, Starlight, and Midnight, as shown above

If you're unsure about which of these MacBook Air models would best suit your needs, we've highlighted the differences — and the similarities — between the three generations of the most popular laptop on the planet below.

Performance and Hardware Differences:

  • M2 MacBook Air: Introduced in 2022, the M2 model features an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. It supports up to 24GB of unified memory and offers storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB.
While this chipset will still deliver robust performance for everyday tasks, it supports only one external display. Available in 13" or 15" screen sizes with a choice of Space Grey, Silver, Starlight, or Midnight.
  • M3 MacBook Air: Launched in 2024, the M3 variant boasts an 8-core CPU with enhanced clock speeds and up to a 10-core GPU. It also supports up to 24GB of unified memory but introduces the capability to connect up to two external displays when the lid is closed.
This model offers improved graphics performance, making it more suitable for creative applications like video editing and gaming. Available in 13" or 15" screen sizes with a choice of Space Grey, Silver, Starlight, or Midnight.
  • M4 MacBook Air: The latest in the series, launched this month, the M4 model is powered by a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. It supports up to 32GB of unified memory, catering to more demanding workflows.
A significant upgrade is the support for up to two 6K external displays, while keeping the built-in Liquid Retina display on the laptop open and running too. It also boasts the 12MP Centre Stage webcam that was exclusive to the pricier MacBook Pro last year. Available in 13" or 15" screen sizes with a choice of Sky Blue, Silver, Starlight, or Midnight.

Shared Features Across M2, M3, and M4 Models:

  • Design and Build: While the colours might vary slightly, all of these MacBooks maintain the same sleek, lightweight design characteristic of the lightweight Air series — at just 0.44-inches (1.13 cm) thick and tipping the scales at 2.7 pounds (1.24kg)
  • Display: Each features a 13.6" Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2560 x 1664, delivering vibrant visuals and sharp text. The screen can display 1 billion colours, with support for the P3 wide colour gamut.
  • Battery Life: The trio offers impressive battery performance, providing up to 18 hours of usage, ensuring productivity throughout the day. That battery life estimate drops to 15 hours when web browsing on Wi-Fi.
  • Connectivity: All models come equipped with two Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, catering to essential connectivity needs.
