Apple could unveil the next iPhone model in a matter of weeks

  • Promotional material for iPhone 16 was shared on X, formerly Twitter
  • It features tagline Ready. Set. Capture and a September 10 release date
  • The authenticity of the leak has been thrown into question
  • But the September 10 could prove accurate, based on previous iPhone events
  • iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro ranges will be powered by iOS 18
  • Teased at WWDC, this new software leans into Artificial Intelligence

Apple is gearing up to launch its next iPhone.

The Californian technology company, valued at $3.45 trillion, typically unveils its newest iPhone in September — and there's nothing to suggest this year will be any different. We're likely to see the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max unveiled in a keynote presentation next month.

But when we'll be treated to our first glimpse of the new iPhone 16 line-up remains a mystery.

A leaked poster for the iPhone 16 launch event claimed September 10 was the chosen date. Shared by tipster Majin Bu on X, formerly known as Twitter, it used the tagline "Ready. Set. Capture" to tease the announcements coming from the Californian company.

"According to what I was told by a source who asked to remain anonymous, the new Apple event where the iPhone 16 will be presented, will be held on September 10 2024," renown tipster Majin Bu shared on X

"Please join us in person for a special event at Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park," the poster reads beneath a prominent Apple logo. However, the authenticity of the leaked poster has been thrown into doubt.

User @lorevfx has admitted to producing the iPhone 16 launch poster in Figma using its generative AI tools. The X account also shared evidence of a conversation with fellow tipster Majin Bu where they attempted to convince them of the authenticity of the poster.

Why go to all of the trouble? "Just because i was bored," admits @lorevfx.

But while the "Ready. Set. Capture" tagline and promotional imagery might be faked... the September 10 launch date seems incredibly plausible. Looking back at previous iPhone launch events, Apple typically targets Tuesday or Wednesday on the second week of September.

In fact, the only time it's deviated from this formula in recent years was 2020 when its event was pushed back into October following months of Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

Looking back at recent iPhone releases, a clear pattern soon emerges...

  • September 7, 2016 | Wednesday | iPhone 7
  • September 12, 2017 | Tuesday | iPhone X
  • September 12, 2018 | Wednesday | iPhone XS
  • September 10, 2019 | Tuesday | iPhone 11
  • October 2020 | Tuesday | iPhone 12
  • September 14, 2021 | Tuesday | iPhone 13
  • September 7, 2022 | Wednesday | iPhone 14
  • September 12, 2023 | Tuesday | iPhone 15

Provided Apple doesn't want to shake up this formula, we're very likely to see iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro unveiled on Tuesday September 10, 2024. The Wednesday of the second week in September falls on September 11 — a date Apple swerved in previous years (iPhone 11 in 2019) for very understandable reasons.

It's possible Apple will hold its launch event the following week, on either September 17 or 18. However, that's much later than we've seen the Cupertino company in recent years... so it seems unlikely.

The only thing that we know about the incoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models is that all four handsets will be powered by the next major version of iOS, which was teased during Apple's Developer Conference, known as WWDC, earlier this summer. GB News was in the crowd with thousands of cheering software developers from around the globe to get a sneak peek at the new features.

iOS 18 is packed with Artificial Intelligence (AI) functionality that lets you design your own emoji from scratch, customise the look of every iPhone app, and use Siri to access ChatGPT for free. Not only that, but the iPhone manufacturer has built its own rival to the likes of Google Gemini, known as Apple Intelligence.

Aside from iOS 18 — something that millions of iPhone owners will miss out on, we'd expect the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max to launch with faster processors, better cameras, and longer battery life. Aside from the standard black and silver finishes, we'd anticipate some exciting new colourways too.

Elsewhere, whispers from within the secretive company suggest the 5x lossless zoom, which was exclusive to the larger (and pricier) iPhone 15 Pro Max model last year, will make its way to both Pro-level handsets.

The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be built from titanium, while the more affordable iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will stick with an aluminium frame, sources claim. There's no word on UK pricing, but don't hold your breath for a generous price cut.

Some tipsters suggest CEO Tim Cook could announce an upgraded Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 during the same event.

Whether Apple is planning for a September 10 or September 16 launch date, we won't have much longer to wait before we find out what the Californian company has been working on.

Stay tuned. GB News will have all of the news, as soon as it's confirmed.
