If you want to preorder a Switch 2 console from Nintendo from today (April 8) you'll need to meet the following restrictions:
- Subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for at least two years continuously by March 31, 2025
- Need an active Nintendo Switch Online membershipon the day the Switch 2 preorder is placed
- Spent a certain amount of time playing purchased / paid Nintendo Switch games — Nintendo will prioritise shoppers with the most hours clocked up on their original Switch console
- Opted to share console usage information with Nintendo to customise offers and recommendations
- Agreed to receive promotional emails and messages from Nintendo
Nintendo says it could relax these restrictions over time, but with Switch 2 consoles sold-out from many of the biggest UK retailers — we wouldn't expect to see these rules removed anytime soon.

If you're subscribed to a Nintendo Switch Online family plan only the bill-payer who originally purchased the membership will be eligible to buy a Switch 2. Other people included in the family membership will not be eligible, Nintendo has confirmed.

In the small print, Nintendo admits: "Over time, the selection criteria thresholds may be lowered and more people could be invited to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Throughout, we will remain focussed on prioritising the most dedicated Nintendo Switch players — while stocks last."
Alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 console, the online Nintendo Store will also take orders for accessories like the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller for £74.99, wireless Nintendo GameCube (GCN) Controller for an authenticated experience when playing GameCube titles coming soon to Nintendo Switch Online for £58.99, Switch 2 Camera powered by USB-C for enhanced in-game chat for £49.99, and microSD Express Cards to expand the built-in storage, starting from £49.99.
Other retailers that will stock the Nintendo Switch 2, including the likes of HMV, EE Store, ShopTo, SimplyGames, and others have not confirmed plans to impose any of the above restrictions. Provided there's enough stock available, anyone will be able to preorder one of these consoles on April 8. If you want to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 console from Amazon UK, you'll need to apply for an invite.
The retailer has not listed the criteria for its invite system, however it warns that not everyone who applies will receive a link to purchase the latest console from Nintendo. "High-demand item with limited quantities. We won't be able to grant all requests," it cautions.

At time of writing, GAME remains one of the few UK retailers that hasn't sold out of its Nintendo Switch 2 stock. It's currently offering the standalone console as well as the Switch 2 + Mario Kart Bundle available with no need for an invite.
