GTA 6 pre-order is live, but you should avoid buying this upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X game just yet

Rockstar hasn't confirmed a release date for GTA 6 ...but that's not stopping some retailers already asking for your money
Preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI are now live — but you should probably avoid them at all costs.
Games retailer Gamivo has listed the forthcoming crime epic from Rockstar on its website with a price tag of £79 for a download code for the game. The licence key will not work with Steam, the site confirmed.
However, Gamivo hasn't revealed whether the digital code applies to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S version of the game.
Grand Theft Auto VI, commonly referred to as GTA 6, isn't scheduled to release until sometime in 2025. Industry analysts believe Sony could launch a more powerful PlayStation to capitalise on excitement in the title.
"This is a pre-order," the listing reads "the key will be delivered upon the game's release date: 2025. Pre-order bonuses might not be included."
Although it might be tempting to lock in a pre-order for Grand Theft Auto to ensure you're at the front of the queue when the game from the Red Dead Redemption studio begins to ship ...we'd caution against placing an order this far out from the release date.
As we approach the GTA 6 release date, Rockstar will undoubtedly announce pricing and pre-order deals, with possible bonuses included with limited editions and other bundles. It's always better to wait until you've assessed the merits of every possible version of the game before reaching for your wallet.
If you haven't heard of Gamivo before, the online retailer describes itself as "a revolutionary place for digital products run by gamers for gamers." It claims to be the "fastest growing website for digital games on the market". It offers licence codes for digital games and in-game currency and Battle Passes.
Rockstar shared a trailer for the game at the end of last year ...but since then, it has remained tight-lipped about everything else about its upcoming sequel to Grand Theft Auto V.
The latter still holds the record as the most financially successful entertainment product of all time — selling over 190 million copies worldwide and generating revenue of $8.5 billion for Edinburgh-based developers Rockstar North and parent company Take-Two Interactive.
The global value of the games industry is estimated to be $250bn (£199bn), showing the impact of a single release from Rockstar.

Experts believe the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series could break its own record sales numbers. After all, the previous entry, Grand Theft Auto V, still holds the crown for the best opening week of sales in video game history — raking in $1.15bn (£1.2bn) in five days.
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch 12 years after the last entry in the franchise, which made its debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Grand Theft Auto V has been re-released multiple times.
Rockstar offered an enhanced version of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014 with a new on-foot first-person view option. It was followed by a PC version of the game, which launched worldwide in April 2015. With development of a sequel taking so much time, Rockstar re-released the game for a second time on the current generation of consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in early 2022.
It was around the same time that, after years of wild speculation, Rockstar confirmed the existence of a new GTA game. It was another year before the feverishly-anticipated trailer for the game was shared online — timed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Scottish company.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
It broke records worldwide when it was launched on YouTube and has since reached 180 million views.
We know that GTA 6 will be set in the fictional US state of Leonida, which is modelled on Florida and home to the Miami-inspired Vice City from the 2002 video game of the same name. The satirical plot story will follow a Bonnie and Clyde-like criminal couple lead by Lucia and her male partner. She will be the first female protagonist for the action-adventure series since 2000.
Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S in 2025, but no exact release date has been confirmed.
