If you want to know what's coming next to your iPhone — make a note of June 9, 2025 in your diary. That's because Apple will host its next Worldwide Developer Conference, more commonly known as WWDC, from its spaceship-like headquarters in Cupertino, California on that date.
The annual event, which will run June 9-13 this time around, is an opportunity for Apple to preview some of the biggest changes coming to its operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS to the developers behind some of the most popular apps on its platforms.
Apple previewed Apple Intelligence at WWDC last year, offering an early glance at the AI summarises for missed notifications, never-before-seen emoji conjured from a written prompt, and Writing Tools to adjust your tone, summarise lengthy paragraphs, and proofread everything you've written on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The Californian firm also used the opening keynote to confirm the UK release date for the Vision Pro and a ground-up redesign for the Photos app, to name just a few announcements.

While WWDC is guaranteed to offer an early glimpse at the new software features coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, Mac, and Apple Watch, Apple has occasionally used its developer-focused event to showcase new hardware too. The US firm has previously used WWDC to showcase devices like the Mac Pro, MacBook Air, and most recently, Apple Vision Pro.
“We’re excited to mark another incredible year of WWDC with our global developer community,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We can’t wait to share the latest tools and technologies that will empower developers and help them continue to innovate.”
WWDC will be available to stream online. Apple will host an in-person event at its Apple Park headquarters.
A limited number of third-party developers and students can apply to attend the in-person event at Apple Park. Tickets for the in-person events will be extremely limited, but developers can learn how to apply via the Apple Developer site and iOS app.
Developers behind some of the biggest apps and games on iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and macOS can delve into all of the announcements via the online resources and interactive sessions. There are also a small number of tickets for the in-person event

Apple will also host several of the next generation of entrepreneurs, coders, and designers via its Swift Student Challenge.
Winners will be notified on March 27 and invited to attend the exclusive event at Apple Park. In addition to those who will be in the audience for the keynote when CEO Tim Cook takes to the stag, 50 students who are deemed to have submitted outstanding work will be invited to the Cupertino HQ for a three-day experience.
For everyone else, we'll bring you all of the news from the WWDC keynote as it happens right here, so stay tuned to find out what's coming in the next version of iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and more.
And what can we expect to see from the WWDC keynote?
Well, all rumours point to a pretty exciting redesign of iOS — the operating system that powers every iPhone on the planet. According to reports, iOS 19 is expected to deliver the most dramatic software overhaul since iOS 7 launched in 2013.
The update aims to simplify how you navigate and control your device, potentially making the Settings app and menus more intuitive.

According to sources speaking to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, "despite the risks involved in major interface changes, top Apple executives say they are confident that users will love the new look and feel. The trick is creating something that appeals both to the hundreds of millions of current users and the new customers that Apple hopes to add in the coming years."
For clues about exactly what this rumoured redesign will look like, look no further than the software running on Apple Vision Pro. This £3,500 Spatial Computer uses circular icons for applications and translucency throughout the operating system to overlay windows and panels on top of the real world.
And now, sources speaking to Bloomberg suggest this look is coming to iPhone, iPad, and Mac later this year.
The work has been described as "one of the most dramatic software overhauls" in the history of Apple. Device owners should expect "greater transparency and new types of windows and buttons — and that should make all Apple devices feel more consistent and familiar".
This isn't just a facelift — sources say Apple is using the overhaul as an opportunity to “simplify the way users navigate and control their devices.”
It will also make the design consistent across all Apple devices. As it stands, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro rely on circular app icons, while the iPad, iPhone and Mac use a rounded square (sometimes referred to as a "squircle"). With a refresh to all of these devices, moving between these different operating systems should become more of a seamless experience.

According to whispers, the complete reworking of Apple's software could pave the way for new devices, like touchscreen-equippd MacBooks, smart home hubs like the Echo Show or Google Nest Hub, as well as foldable iPhone and iPad variants, to name just a few possibilities.
