Apple has just released a new iteration of its entry-level iPad with twice as much built-in storage — and a very generous price cut. This new model, simply called iPad, replaces both the iPad (10th Generation) and iPad (9th Generation) on shelves in your local Apple Store.
That's because this new iteration has the same all-screen design and colourful cases that characterised the iPad (10th Generation) when it launched almost three years ago, but lands at the reasons £329 price tag previously reserved for the iPad (9th Generation). That's a £170 price cut compared to its predecessor — and a superb deal for anyone in the market for a new 11-inch iPad.

Launched in the UK today, Apple has upgraded its most affordable iPad with a more capable chipset and twice as much storage — all while cutting the price by £170. The new iPad comes with a 10.9" Retina display with an all-screen design, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, and Centre Stage camera that keeps everyone in-frame automatically during video calls

Powering this refreshed model is the A16 system-on-a-chip that made its debut in iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max back in September 2022. This chipset offers a significant performance boost, making the new iPad nearly 30% faster than the previous generation. Compared to the last iPad model that occupied the same £329 price point in the Apple Store, the Californian company says this new model is up to 50% faster.
"A16 makes the updated iPad up to 6x faster than the best-selling Android tablet," Apple claims.
Despite the extra processing grunt, Apple is still promising all-day battery life from the new iPad. Out of the box, it runs the latest version of iPadOS, which lets you arrange apps and widgets on your Home Screen and change their size. You can also tint app icons to your favorite colour, or have iPadOS 18 suggest a shade that complements your wallpaper.
Compared to the previous generation, iPad with A16 offers a jump in performance for apps like Morpholio Trace, while still providing all-day battery life

You can also protect sensitive apps and the information inside them by locking or hiding them so it requires a Touch ID fingerprint scan to unlock. If you own an Apple Pencil, this new iPad supports Smart Script, which refines your natural handwriting as you write to make it straighter, smoother, and more legible — at the same time, it corrects your spelling and grammar inline as you write and can convert typed text into your handwriting.
Unfortunately, despite the performance improvements, the new iPad lacks support for Apple Intelligence. Launched as free upgrade last year, the A16 chip is only coupled with 6GB of RAM, falling short of the minimum 8GB required for Apple Intelligence.
The new iPad starts with 128GB of storage, with 256GB and a new 512GB option available as upgrades. Like its predecessor, Apple offers the iPad in four vibrant colour options: Blue, Pink, Silver, and Yellow.
The new iPad with A16 starts at £329 for Wi-Fi models and £479 for Wi-Fi + Cellular models. Education pricing starts at £309 for Wi-Fi models and £459 for Wi-Fi + Cellular models. It's compatible with the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Apple Pencil (1st generation).
Like its predecessor, which arrived at a much costlier £499 price point, the new iPad is available in four colourful cases — Blue, Pink, Silver, and Yellow

Each of the new iPad models is made from at least 30% recycled content overall, including 100% recycled aluminium in its enclosure, as well as 100% recycled magnets and rare earth elements. The batteries use 100% recycled cobalt and 95% recycled lithium.
The packaging is entirely fibre-based as Apple works to eliminate plastic from all packaging by year-end.
It's been a bumper few weeks for anyone in the market for a new Apple device, with the US company announcing a more affordable iPhone 16 model, refreshed iPad Air, and faster and cheaper MacBook Air.
