The 22-year-old is just two victories away from winning the first major of his career

Jack Draper has emotionally admitted that he doesn't always appreciate his own achievements as he prepares to battle Jannik Sinner at the US Open tonight.

The Briton has won all five of his clashes at Flushing Meadows so far, with Alex de Minaur the latest to be dispatched on Wednesday.

Draper goes up against Sinner tonight as the underdog, with his Italian opponent currently ranked No 1 in the world.

Sinner also has one Grand Slam triumph to his name already, having beaten Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open back in January.

No matter how the action unfolds at the Arthur Ashe Stadium tonight, Draper should be proud of what he's achieved.

But the tennis star has now emotionally confessed that he doesn't always appreciate his own achievements in an interview with Sky Sports.

"I'm not the kind of person who is happy to get to a certain point," he said.

"I'm always thinking of the next challenge, which is not always a good thing in life at times.

"I wish I was a bit more appreciative of what I'm doing in life and achieving.

"As a tennis player you're always hungry for the next thing, you always want something more, and achieve bigger things.

"There's no time to be happy about where I'm at, at the moment. I'm looking forward to Friday."

Draper has previously admitted he contemplated quitting tennis due to injury issues last year.

Fast-forward to now, he is just two victories away from becoming the stuff of tennis folklore.

He said: "My perspective changed a lot last year when I began to have a more working mentality where I knew that if I wanted to be one of the best players in the world I had to mature early and give everything to my tennis.

"No more going out and no more wasting energy on random things.

"I had to really lock myself away and really focus on what I really wanted to do."

And Draper has become aware of his fellow tennis players taking him far more seriously tan before, too.

"A lot of the players know my talent and know my tennis capabilities and probably see me as a dangerous player," he added.

"It's been important for me to show my face on the tour most weeks and show that I'm physically robust.

"That mentally, I'm all in, and I'm doing all the right things, and that also gains respect from the other players."

Draper could become the third British tennis player to win the US Open this century.

Andy Murray was the first, with the 37-year-old overcoming Novak Djokovic in 2012.

And Emma Raducanu was the second, with the 21-year-old upsetting the odds to beat Leylah Fernandez three years ago.
