The Serb has opened up after he beat Jaime Faria on Wednesday

Novak Djokovic has admitted he 'dislikes' his discussions with his coaching staff being shown at the 2025 Australian Open following his victory over Jaime Faria on Wednesday morning.

The 37-year-old dug deep to win 7-1, 7-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make the third round of the competition as he chases a historic 25th Grand Slam title.

For this year's Australian Open, coaching pods have been placed near to the court.

This allows both players and coaches to communicate at any time, except during live points.

One person sitting in Djokovic's corner this winter is Andy Murray, who is coaching his close friend following his retirement from tennis back in the summer.

But Djokovic, speaking after his win over Faria, made it clear he wasn't a fan of having his private discussions with the Briton broadcast to the entire world.

“The only thing that I dislike there is the fact that someone from your opponent’s team might be watching the match, and she or he hears that and, of course, then texts the team member," he said.

“Ten seconds later you have the information. That’s the part that I don’t like.

“So I feel like there should be some discretion and privacy in terms of the actual on-court coaching tactics.

“That shouldn’t be out there public, I would say, because then it kind of endangers you live during the match.”

Djokovic was pushed hard by Faria on Wednesday.

His young opponent performed well in the biggest match of his life and was able to claim the second set before tiring.

And Djokovic was relieved to book his place in the third round, while tipping his beaten opponent for a bright future.

“I think I responded very well in the third and particularly fourth set, the way I ended up the match," he said.

“He (Faria) was playing lights-out tennis.

"It was the end of the second set and beginning of the third, I had to weather the storm.

“He’s been practically serving two first serves the entire match.

"It’s not easy to play someone like that who obviously doesn’t have anything to lose in coming out.

“He’s a big guy, very young I think 20 or 21 years old, so I told him at the net the future is bright for him and he should keep it going.”

Djokovic will return to action on Friday when he faces Tomas Machac.
