Nick Kyrgios offered his condolences to Rafael Nadal after the Spaniard's comeback was cut short due to injury.

Nick Kyrgios has been slammed by some tennis fans for making Rafael Nadal's withdrawal from the Australian Open all about himself after reacting to the Spaniard's latest injury on social media.

Nadal made his long-awaited return to competitive tennis last week in Brisbane and won his first two matches.

But the 37-year-old was injured during his quarter-final loss to Jordan Thompson on Friday.

Nadal underwent a scan following his exit from the Brisbane International that confirmed he had suffered a micro tear on his hip.

Fortunately, Nadal stated that the injury was not in the same area as his previous long-term injury.

However, he announced on social media that he didn't feel ready to put his body through the rigours of five-set matches and he would not be able to play in the Australian Open.

The news came as a huge blow to Australian Open fans, who were hoping to catch a glimpse of Nadal in action potentially for the final time in Melbourne.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion has suggested 2024 could be his final year playing professional tennis if his injury issues persist.

Nadal now joins Kyrgios as one of the more high-profile stars not competing at this year's Australian Open due to injury.

The Aussie tennis ace was devastated to hear of Nadal's withdrawal and likened his former rival's situation to his own.

Kyrgios' post read: "Feel for Rafa man.

"Get better soon, that was the fear for me as well, coming back a little too soon…"

Kyrgios' social media post wasn't well received by some tennis fans though, who felt the former Wimbledon finalist was making it all about himself.

One person replied: "No one is surprised that you made this tweet about you."

Another wrote: "At least think once before comparing yourself with the great Rafael Nadal."
