The 29-year-old Nottingham right-hander, stepping in for the injured Jack Draper and absent Cameron Norrie, even created three break points for a 2-0 lead in the second set.
However, Hurkacz's powerful serve proved decisive, with the 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist firing 18 aces en route to victory in one hour and 45 minutes.
