Jessica Pegula will play Emma Raducanu and is worth a staggering amount

Emma Raducanu will face the "world's richest tennis star" Jessica Pegula in the Miami Open quarter-finals on Wednesday evening.

The 22-year-old Brit secured her spot after defeating Amanda Anisimova in straight sets on Monday.

Pegula, the world No.4, comes from extraordinary wealth with her family worth a staggering £7.7 billion.

The 31-year-old American's vast fortune dwarfs that of tennis legends like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal combined.

Pegula is the daughter of oil and gas tycoon Terry Pegula, who founded a natural gas company in 1983 with just £7,500 borrowed from family and friends.

Her father sold parts of his company to Royal Dutch Shell for around £4.7 billion and later sold additional assets for £1.75 billion in 2014.

Terry Pegula now heads Pegula Sports and Entertainment, owning the NFL's Buffalo Bills, which he purchased for £930 million in 2014.

He also owns the NHL franchise Buffalo Sabres, acquired for £146 million in 2011.

The Pegula family owns an impressive property portfolio, including a £5 million estate in Boca Raton, Florida.

Known as 'Camelot Farms', this expansive 194-acre property is equivalent to 121 football pitches and caters to the family's equestrian interests.

The 14,000-square-foot mansion boasts eight bedrooms, an outdoor pool and a spa.

The family also owns a nearby four-bedroom house purchased for £452,000 in 2014, described as "the equestrian's dream" with its four-stall horse barn.

Despite her privileged background, Pegula has ventured into business on her own merit, opening the Healthy Scratch restaurant in Buffalo with her sister Kelly in 2016.

Her food truck business, launched in 2017, unfortunately closed by 2022 due to pandemic setbacks.

On court, she has reached as high as world No.3 and made the US Open final last year, losing to Aryna Sabalenka.

She currently holds three WTA 1000 titles to her name.

Raducanu is enjoying her best run of form since her 2021 US Open triumph, winning four WTA main-draw matches in a row.

This quarter-final marks her first at a WTA 1000 event.

"The biggest thing I'm proud of is just finding the competitive spirit and being there for every ball," Raducanu said after her victory over Anisimova.

"I think that's kind of been missing in the last few months and even a few years at times."

The head-to-head record between Raducanu and Pegula stands evenly balanced at 1-1.

Pegula claimed victory in straight sets on the hard courts of Cincinnati in 2022.

Raducanu, however, prevailed when they met on grass at Eastbourne last year.

Despite the 56-place gap in world rankings favouring Pegula, Raducanu's resurgent form suggests the quarter-final could be closely contested.
