The Briton was delighted after making the second round of the competition

Emma Raducanu has admitted her Australian Open victory over Shelby Rogers was 'extra sweet' on Tuesday morning.

The 21-year-old was playing in a Grand Slam for the first time in 12 months, having struggled with injuries over the past year.

But Raducanu was excellent Down Under, beating her opponent 6-3, 6-2 to make the second round.

She will now go up against Wang Yafan in the next round, with that match due to take place on Thursday.

And Raducanu, speaking after her victory over Rogers, admitted she was savouring the 'extra sweet' feeling.

“I’m very happy to have come through that," she said.

"I think being my first slam match back, it is definitely a little bit extra sweet.

“I knew going in Shelby’s a player with experience. She’s had some great wins in her career.

"I knew I was going to have to try my best to neutralize her serve and focus on mine.’

“I’m happy with the way I came through that today.”

Raducanu recently reunited with Nick Cavady, who she worked with during her childhood years.

Her constant chopping and changing of coaches over the years has led to criticism from some corners.

But Raducanu is enjoying working with Cavady again and says she's 'very comfortable' as she targets a second Grand Slam title of her career.

"It’s nice to be with Nick,” she added.

“I’ve known him since I was a kid and I feel very comfortable there.

"In all aspects of my life, I feel like are calming down and settled.

“When you come back after eight months, have experienced three surgeries, you’re just really grateful to be able to move freely.”

It was a good day for British tennis.

Katie Boulter also made it through, while Cam Norrie and Jack Draper have also progressed on the men's side of the draw.

Boulter booked her place in the second round with a straight sets win over Yuan Yue.

And, if both the 27-year-old and Raducanu win their next matches, they could meet in the third round.

Boulter reacted to her own win by saying: "It was really tricky conditions out there.

"I think it was a match about who was going to be the most headstrong on the day and I think I did that really well today.

"I'm happy with that so to be through to the second round, I'm delighted to give myself another chance at the biscuit and go for it.

"Whoever I play, I'm sure I'm going to come out and raise my level."

She added: "No, it really wasn't [enjoyable] but I think those moments define you as a player and make you stronger.

"I'm not entirely sure what happened in that moment but I found a way out of it.

"I think that's the important thing, nothing's going to be straightforward, especially in conditions like today.

"I think finding a way to win is pretty much most tennis. So I'm proud of myself."
