Andy Murray looks increasingly likely to call time on his career this year.

Andy Murray has promised to announce when he plans to retire before the final tournament of his career.

The three-time major champion has faced increased questions on his future having suffered a difficult start to the 2024 season.

How Murray plans to retire remains to be seen and exactly when with theories that he could do so after Wimbledon or the Olympics if he's picked to play.

Tennis icons of yesteryear have all approached retirement differently with Roger Federer waving farewell at the Laver Cup in 2022.

Rafael Nadal is also on the verge of retiring from the sport with questions on how he plans to say goodbye.

Murray doesn't appear to have given it much thought at this stage, although he liked how Federer did it.

When asked whether he'd thought about how he would announce his retirement, Murray said: "I think the thing is that there's no right way of finishing your career and everyone's different.

"What might be the right way for Federer might not be the right way for Nadal, might not be the right way for Djokovic.

"Everyone is different like Pete Sampras. He won the US Open and didn't say anything and didn't play again.

"Roger Federer finished his career playing a doubles match with Rafael Nadal.

"Who would have expected that? But I thought it was an amazing way to finish.

"His greatest rival but being on the same side of the net as him I thought was really special.

"Strangely, the video of Murray's interview cut off at the end just as he was about to go into more detail on how he would approach announcing his retirement but stated he would at least give fans some notice.

"When the time's right, I'll probably say something before I play my last match or my last tournament, but whether I say anything..."

Murray is looking to turn a corner after recently ending his six-match losing streak at the Qatar Open.

That was followed by a close defeat to 18-year-old Jakub Mensik in the following round.

Murray has made a strong start to the Dubai Tennis Championships with an impressive win over Denis Shapovalov and faces a tough test against Ugo Humbert in the next round.

But speaking after the match, which marked his 500th win on hardcourt, Murray suggested he only had a few months left before retiring.

He said: "It's not easy, I probably don't have too long left but I'll do the best that I can these last few months."
