Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan is causing friction among fellow professionals with his stubborn choice of chalk, according to seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry.
While most players on the World Snooker Tour have moved on to modern alternatives, O'Sullivan continues to use traditional Triangle chalk during tournaments.
Hendry revealed this decision is becoming a source of irritation for other players on the circuit.
O'Sullivan, currently competing at the Crucible and through to the quarter-finals, shares this controversial chalk preference with only one other top professional - 2023 world champion Luca Brecel.

The issue stems from the different properties of the chalk types used in professional snooker.
Most professionals now opt for circular TAOM chalk, which significantly reduces the number of kicks during play.
This modern alternative also prevents unpredictable bounces off the cushions, creating more consistent playing conditions.
Triangle chalk, recognisable as the iconic blue cubes found in snooker clubs nationwide, is known to affect table conditions differently.
When players mix chalk types on the same table, it can alter how the table plays, creating frustration among those who've switched to the newer product.

Hendry was explicit about the impact of O'Sullivan's chalk choice when speaking to the BBC.
"I know it's an irritation for all the other players that Ronnie continues to use the old chalk that does give bad contacts and bounces off the cushion," he said.
"I know from speaking to all the other players that it does get very annoying."
The Scottish legend explained the practical issues this creates during matches.
"Because the table starts to play a little bit heavier. Kicks become a factor, cushions become a bit unpredictable," he added.

Fellow Class of 92 star John Higgins was equally critical, describing Ronnie's use of the chalk as a "bit of a nightmare".
O'Sullivan, however, remains defiant about his chalk choice when questioned.
Speaking to TNT Sports earlier this season, he dismissed suggestions he should switch.
"Why do I not use the round chalk? Because I don't believe in it," he stated firmly.
The seven-time world champion went further, declaring: "I believe this [Triangle] is the king of all chalks."

O'Sullivan also highlighted the significant price difference between the options.
"This you can buy a piece for maybe 20p, the other stuff 15 quid," he pointed out.
"I just don't like it. I think this is still the best stuff."
Despite his chalk controversy, O'Sullivan has successfully reached the quarter-finals at the Crucible after victories over Ali Carter and Pang Junxu.

He now faces Si Juahui in the next round.
However, the 49-year-old has admitted to struggling with his form in his first competitive appearance since January.
"I feel so unconfident. It's like, horrible. It's horrible even when you're playing alright," he said.
"I'm just going to try and coach my way out of it, give myself two years and just give it a good go."
