Snooker player Matthew Selt has received a three-month suspended ban and £11,000 fine for abusive and aggressive behaviour at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.

The world No.33 was charged with breaches of WPBSA Conduct Regulations and his World Snooker contract following incidents at the tournament in Riyadh last year.

The disciplinary action comes after the 39-year-old displayed aggressive conduct towards a senior Matchroom executive and sent abusive messages to another player during the first-ever ranking event held in Saudi Arabia.

According to the WPBSA, Selt was aggressive and used abusive language towards a Matchroom senior executive in the presence of an important WST partner.

He also sent an abusive text message to another player.

The WPBSA further stated that Selt "was aggressive in his behaviour and was rude and abusive in his language" towards the same individual.

The incidents took place during the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, where Selt was eliminated after losing 5-3 to China's Pang Junxu in the fourth round.

Selt has accepted the allegations and apologised to those involved in the incidents.

He claimed he was experiencing significant stress and pressure during the period in question.

The three-month suspension will remain suspended against his name until the conclusion of the 2025-26 snooker season.

The ban would only be activated if Selt is "found guilty of, or pleading guilty to, any further breaches of the Regulations and/or Contract in that period".

He will continue his role as vice-chairman of the WPBSA players association, despite the controversy.

Selt has been ordered to pay a £10,000 fine alongside £11,000 in legal costs to the governing body.

The WPBSA emphasised that their "members shall, at all times, behave in a proper and correct manner consistent with their status as a professional sportsperson".

The governing body added that no snooker player should act in a way that "is likely to bring into disrepute the games of snooker and/or billiards".

Selt is due to face Kyren Wilson in the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong next month, though he is not participating in this week's World Open in Yushan.

This is not Selt's first controversy involving heated behaviour at tournaments.

During German Masters qualifying in Sheffield last December, he drew criticism for an outburst directed at both a teenage player and a referee.

Selt shouted "oh my God!" when 18-year-old Latvian Artemijs Zizins fluked a match-ball red in their final frame.

During the same match, he also told the referee to "shut up" amid a back-stage commotion.
