Mark Selby has promised to buy his 10-year-old daughter Sofia a Kindle after securing the Welsh Open title and a £100,000 prize in Llandudno on Sunday night.

The world number four defeated Stephen Maguire 9-6 to claim the Ray Reardon Trophy for the first time since 2008.

The victory adds to Selby's recent successes in the British Open and Championship League.

The 41-year-old celebrated the triumph with his wife Vikki and daughter Sofia, who joined him for photos around the table following his win.

A crucial moment in the match came when Selby led 6-5 before the evening interval.

The Leicester player had built a commanding 60-0 lead in the frame.

However, he missed what appeared to be a routine red, opening the door for his opponent.

Maguire seized the opportunity with a remarkable clearance, taking the frame 71-65 to level the match at 6-6.

The missed shot could have proved costly for Selby, though he ultimately recovered to secure the victory.

Following the dramatic frame, Selby made light of his mistake, saying: "The red I missed she (Sofia) probably would have potted that as well.

"I'll get one [a Kindle] if she wants."

The four-time world champion also praised his opponent's response to the error.

"The clearance Stephen made, it was ridiculous, one of the best clearances I have seen. But it didn't surprise me," Selby added.

Maguire showed grace in defeat, expressing gratitude to the Welsh crowd.

"I just want to say thanks to the crowd. I don't usually get that much support but Llandudno was giving me it so thank you," the Scotsman said.

"I had a good week, enjoyed myself and just didn't show up in the end," he added.

Maguire acknowledged Selby's dominant finish to the match.

"He played well in the last three frames and I never really seen a ball until the last minute. There's nothing you can do when he is potting all the balls," he said.

"All credit to Mark," Maguire concluded.
