The snooker star lost to Lei Peifan on Saturday night

Kyren Wilson is considering turning down a punditry role with the BBC following his recent exit from the World Snooker Championship.

The defending champion went into his showdown with Lei Peifan hoping to lay down a marker following his triumph in 2024.

But that didn't happen, with Wilson losing 19-9 to Peifan - who was making his debut in the prestigious competition.

The snooker star has agreed to work with the BBC for the remainer of the tournament in the wake of his shock exit.

However, Wilson admitted on Saturday that he was re-considering that plan - with the defeat 'really' hurting him as his hopes of glory went up in smoke.

“I cannot think of anything worse than snooker right now!" he said.

“I’m not sure what I will do. It has been an incredibly long season. I have really missed my family this year, it has been really tough at times.

“I love this sport, I love the game. I have tried to be the best ambassador possible. But now it’s trying to fit in a bit of quality family time.

“I’m meant to be working for the BBC! I don’t know. I don’t really want to be there.

This is extremely tough to take. It really hurts. I’ve such a strong record at the Crucible. I’m tough to beat here."

The Crucible Curse has plagued defending champions over the years.

Wilson became the 20th person to have lifted the trophy for the first time then failed to retain it the following year.

In the build-up to his defeat, the 33-year-old smashed a mirror in order to show that there's no such thing as bad luck.

After his defeat, he joked about putting it back together.

“I’m sure the Curse will be broken at some point. Unfortunately I won’t be that person," he continued.

“I certainly had the Snooker Gods against me. Maybe I have to put that mirror I smashed back together.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, there was another major upset as Neil Robertson lost to Chris Wakelin.

Robertson, reacting to the shock result, admitted he was pleased with the way he performed - despite not getting the victory he wanted.

"It was a huge ask after yesterday, I thought yesterday was a pretty poor run of the ball," he stated.

"I didn't do a lot wrong, I only missed one ball I should've potted. So 7-2 was a really unfair reflection. But the way I played in the session, still gave me a lot of hope today.

"To win the first four, then the interval came and I didn't quite get that momentum going again.

"Still played some decent stuff, potted a really good black at eight each... I think if I had got to nine before him, I certainly would've won."
