The Welshman will forever be remembered for his brilliant feat in snooker, likely to be immortalised by pub quizzes from now until the end of time

Jackson Page has etched his name into snooker history by becoming the first player ever to achieve two maximum 147 breaks in the same match.

The 23-year-old Welshman accomplished this unprecedented feat during World Championship qualifying in Sheffield.

Page's remarkable achievement came during his third-round qualifying match against England's Allan Taylor, which he won convincingly by 10-2.

The world number 35, who turned professional in 2019, had never previously made a competitive maximum break in his career before delivering two in quick succession.

His historic performance has earned him a substantial financial reward and moved him one step closer to the Crucible Theatre.

Page recorded his first maximum in the eighth frame on Sunday evening, establishing an 8-1 overnight lead against Taylor.

He then remarkably repeated the achievement on Monday in the 12th frame to seal his victory.

"I'm over the moon," Page told BBC 5 Live Drive. "It's a bizarre sort of feeling really."

The Ebbw Vale native described feeling the same pressure as during the deep end of tournaments.

"As soon as the 15th black went in and I was on the yellow, I knew it was going to happen," he added.

His second maximum was particularly impressive as he deliberately pursued it from the first ball.

Page's historic achievement has earned him a whopping £147,000 bonus, which was offered by World Snooker Tour bosses for any player recording two 147 breaks across any of the Triple Crown events.

He could potentially win an additional £15,000 for the tournament's highest break if no one else manages a maximum.

"It feels great breaking records," Page said. "It's a great bonus. It's a great feeling to have my first and second 147s at the worlds."

The young Welshman revealed the money would be particularly helpful as he has a three-month-old son and has recently bought a house.

"There will be a nice summer holiday when the season's over," he added.

Page will now face England's world number 30 Joe O'Connor in the final qualifying round on Tuesday, aiming to reach the Crucible for a second consecutive year

LATEST SPORT NEWS:

The Welshman qualified for the tournament proper last year but suffered a heavy 10-1 defeat to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the opening round.

He had previously reached the Crucible in 2022, where he caused an upset by defeating former finalist Barry Hawkins 10-7.

Despite his historic achievement, Page remains focused on the task ahead.

He told reporters there would be no extravagant celebrations, just "a steak dinner on Monday night before practice on Tuesday."
