The England skipper has opened up following his side's victory

Maro Itoje has challenged England to 'grow' following their Six Nations victory over Wales on Saturday.

Steve Borthwick's side went into the showdown knowing they needed to win to boost their hopes of winning the tournament.

England were outstanding in Cardiff, however, with the Red Roses scoring 10 tries to clock up a 68-14 triumph.

Itoje, speaking to the BBC, has admitted that he's delighted with the result.

And the England skipper has also called on his team-mates to continue to grow, having enjoyed a positive Six Nations campaign with four victories from five matches.

He said: "It was a fantastic effort from the team, the English support here in Cardiff was amazing.

"We've been building towards this, each game we've shown a different side to us, we're just happy to finish it well.

"You have to keep consistent even when results aren't going your way.

"I applaud the team because even when results weren't going our way, and there was plenty of outside noise, we kept on being consistent.

"The challenge is to continue to grow, continue to get better even when we get scrutiny. Let's just stay consistent."

Itoje added: "It's been an absolute honour and privilege to captain the team, the boys have been absolutely fantastic, they've supported me.

"All of this is them and not me. It's a whole collective effort, the players, the staff, the backroom staff, we've all worked towards this."

While England have come on leaps and bounds this term, Wales have endured a campaign to forget.

They lost all five of their matches, meaning they'll finish bottom of the table.

And Wales captain Jac Morgan cut a dejected figure following the clash, with the skipper crushed by another shambolic result.

"It was a tough game," he admitted.

"We are gutted with the result but full credit to England, they were brilliant today and clinical when they had that ball.

"You can't knock the effort of the boys and their commitment in training.

"It will come hopefully and we'll get back to work and try to keep on improving.

"Thanks to the boys for all of their effort over the last few weeks and to the fans who are always coming out to support.

"To be able to play in front of a packed out crowd is something special, we're just disappointed with the result."

England could win the Six Nations of Scotland beat France in Paris tonight. However, all signs point to Les Bleus being crowned champions given their fine form so far.
