Away from the track, Wellesley ran a small grocery shop in Sherwood Content, Jamaica, since 2017.
The shop became a fixture in the local community where Usain grew up.
Wellesley's quiet support behind the scenes helped shape his son's remarkable athletic journey that captivated the world.
Jamaica's Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, offered his condolences in a heartfelt message.
'I join with every Jamaican in extending my deepest and most sincere condolences to @usainbolt, his beloved mother Mrs. Jennifer Bolt, and the entire Bolt family, following the passing of their patriarch, Mr. Wellesley Bolt', he wrote.
The Prime Minister described Wellesley as 'a strong, quiet force behind one of Jamaica's greatest sons'.
'His presence, support, and guidance helped to shape a legacy that continues to inspire the world', Holness added.
He also acknowledged the close family bond that Usain had always displayed publicly.
'As you grieve this great loss, the prayers and support of an entire nation are with you', the Prime Minister said.
Olivia Grange, a member of parliament in Jamaica, also shared her sympathies with the Bolt family.
'I offer my sincerest condolences to Jennifer, Usain, and the rest of the Bolt family', she said.
Grange encouraged the family to find comfort in their memories during this difficult time.
'It is going to be a difficult time, but I encourage them to be comforted by the memory of a very good father', she added.
